TV-Series
Description
Qum is a young war orphan who appears aboard the Anti-Earth Union Group battleship Argama during the events depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, having first been introduced in the preceding series. She and Shinta, whom she regards like an older brother, were brought onto the ship by Char Aznable after their father was framed and killed by the Titans, who needed a scapegoat for the assassination of the AEUG leader Blex Forer. Following her father's death, Qum was found with Shinta selling water, and Char, moved by the voice of Lalah Sune, took the two children under his protection and brought them to the Argama.
Aboard the Argama, Qum was looked after by Fa Yuiry, the mechanic Anna, and the ship's doctor Hasan. In her early appearances she is childlike, mischievous, and prone to wandering into areas where she should not be, often pestering Kamille, Bright, or Hasan when bored, and her playful antics sometimes irritated the crew. Despite this, she remained loyal to the people who had taken her in. Her open and innocent nature also led her to befriend the troubled cyber-Newtype Rosamia Badam, whose childlike manner resonated with her; Qum and Shinta ultimately helped Rosamia escape the ship after she became distressed by her situation.
During the First Neo Zeon War, Qum continued to live on the Argama and matured noticeably, taking on real responsibilities such as helping to guard the captured Neo Zeon officer Chara Soon. She also cooked for the crew, though her cooking was poor enough that Judau Ashta made a sour face when tasting it. In the course of the conflict she was once blown through a hull breach during an attack and had to be rescued by Bright Noa. When the crew transferred to the new ship Nahel Argama, Qum did not go with them; instead she accompanied Bright to the Moon. In her final appearance, she is present to see off Judau and Roux Louka as they depart for Jupiter.
Qum's motivations are not tied to any ideology or military goal. As a child orphaned by war, her role is that of a young dependent who grows up within the care of the crew. Her development is marked by a gradual shift from mischief toward greater responsibility and steadiness, even as she remains a vulnerable child kept away from direct combat. Her notable qualities lie in small practical contributions such as cooking, running errands, and assisting with simple guard duties, and her presence gives the ship's crew a sense of human warmth and childhood perspective amid the larger conflict.
