Description
Chara Soon is a female officer and mobile suit pilot from the Neo Zeon faction, who plays a significant role as both an antagonist and an occasional troubled ally. She is recognized for her wildly unpredictable behavior, which makes her a chaotic and memorable presence in the conflict. Physically, she is typically depicted with a striking and unconventional hairstyle featuring dual red and yellow colors, leading to a distinctive visual appearance.

Her background begins as a volunteer soldier from Side 3 who joined the Axis military due to her strong admiration for leader Haman Karn. Chara first appears in the story not as a frontline captain but as an observer sent by Haman to monitor the actions of the Neo Zeon officer Mashymre Cello. After Mashymre suffers repeated failures against the Argama, a ship belonging to the Anti-Earth Union Group, Chara is assigned to replace him as the captain of the Endra.

The core of Chara Soon's character lies in her extremely unstable personality. She experiences constant and dramatic mood swings, shifting from acting innocent and almost childish to becoming aggressive, confident, and completely uncontrollable in battle. This instability makes her a dangerous pilot, as she is prone to going berserk during mobile suit combat. She is also manipulative, frequently using feminine wiles to get what she wants from men. For example, she once tricked Mashymre into confessing something inappropriate on tape and later, while imprisoned, she unsuccessfully attempted to seduce both the young protagonist Judau Ashta and Captain Bright Noa to engineer her escape.

Her motivations are closely tied to her loyalty to Haman Karn, which is a driving force behind her actions. However, early in the series, her primary goal shifts to simple survival and escape when she is captured by the Argama crew. During her time as a prisoner, she is forced to work as a cleaning lady under the irritating supervision of two children, much to her visible disgust. This period of captivity leads to an unusual and complicated relationship with the main characters, particularly Judau. Despite being enemies, they develop a strange rapport, and she comes to like Judau. This bond is demonstrated multiple times, such as when Chara pushes Judau out of the way of sniper fire, and when Judau in turn saves her from another enemy pilot.

After escaping during a stop at the lunar city of Granada, Chara disappears for a time. She later reappears having undergone a transformation into a Cyber Newtype, a human whose mental abilities have been artificially enhanced. The process has severe side effects, including the erasure of many of her past memories, contributing further to her unstable mental state. She does, however, have sporadic moments of clarity where she recognizes Judau and reacts with wild, exaggerated affection. Her role in the latter part of the story is as a powerful but tragic force, piloting the formidable AMX-015 Geymalk mobile suit. Despite her enhancements, her personality remains more comedic and erratic than other Cyber Newtypes.

In terms of abilities, Chara is consistently portrayed as an exceptionally skilled mobile suit pilot. Even before her enhancement, she was able to fight Judau Ashta in the powerful ZZ Gundam to a standstill. Her piloting skills are considered top-tier, ranking among the best in the series, though her low emotional stability can limit her effectiveness. After becoming a Cyber Newtype, her powers and combat abilities are further amplified, allowing her to single-handedly engage a squadron of enemy mobile suits.

Her story concludes in the final battle of the series. After the death of her comrade Mashymre, she is overcome with rage and grief. During the chaotic internal conflict of Neo Zeon, she intervenes to protect Haman from a group of elite rebel pilots. In her final act, her damaged Geymalk rams into an enemy unit, causing an explosion that kills her. Her death is a moment of sorrow for Judau, signifying the tragic end of a complicated and memorable rival.
