Description
Gottn Goh is a fictional character from the anime Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. He is a male human with brown hair, standing 165 centimeters tall, and was affiliated with the space colony of Axis, later serving the Neo Zeon movement. Holding the military rank of an officer, his position is primarily that of the first officer or executive officer aboard the Endra-class warship Endra. Not a prominent Newtype, his strengths lie in command and strategic planning rather than in exceptional piloting skill.
In terms of personality, Gottn Goh is depicted as an experienced and skilled military commander who presents a noticeably calmer and more measured demeanor than his superior officers. He is a pragmatic and calculating tactician who prefers to rely on traps, ambushes, and covert operations rather than engaging in straightforward, one-on-one mobile suit duels. This preference directly contrasts with the more zealous and honor-bound approach of his first commander, Mashymre Cello. Gottn is fundamentally loyal to the Neo Zeon cause and to the crew of the Endra, although he is not immune to displays of emotion when his loyalty is reciprocated. A significant and ruthless aspect of his character is his willingness to sacrifice civilians without hesitation if it serves to accomplish his military objectives.
During the early stages of the First Neo Zeon War, Gottn serves as the first officer to the young and inexperienced Mashymre Cello, acting as a moderating force and offering crucial tactical advice. After Mashymre is recalled to Axis, command of the Endra falls to the unstable Chara Soon, a situation that visibly frightens Gottn and the rest of the crew. Despite their fear, he remains professionally diligent in his duties. Due to Chara Soon's mental instability, Gottn is granted greater authority over the ship's mobile suit contingent, allowing him to effectively implement his preferred surprise attack strategies.
Following the destruction of the Endra and the capture of Chara Soon, Gottn takes full command of the surviving crew and mobile suits, continuing to operate under the Neo Zeon banner. He is later assigned on an intelligence-gathering mission to the lunar city of Granada and sees an opportunity to destroy the Argama. Demonstrating his characteristic cunning, he devises a complex plan involving a hired spy named Cecilia and a bomb disguised as a bonus payment. The plan ultimately fails when Cecilia sacrifices herself. She leaps from a shuttle onto the leg of Gottn's last remaining mobile suit as it retreats to his ship, causing the bomb to detonate beside his vessel. The resulting explosion kills Gottn, his entire crew, and destroys his ship in the process.
His authority and responsibilities evolve throughout the narrative. Initially serving as a subordinate and advisor to Mashymre, he later provides reluctant support to the volatile Chara Soon before finally assuming independent command of his own unit. In terms of abilities, though his piloting skills are considered average at best, Gottn compensates with a cunning strategic mind. He is an effective planner who specializes in traps, misinformation, and utilizing his forces in coordinated surprise attacks rather than relying on personal combat prowess.
