Kōji Totani
Description
Kōji Totani was a Japanese actor, voice actor, and narrator born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan on July 12, 1948. He was a graduate of Tokai University and spent the majority of his career affiliated with the talent agency Aoni Production. Totani passed away on February 6, 2006 at the age of 57 due to acute heart failure. His final appearance was in a 2006 New Year one-hour special of the series Naruto, where he voiced the character Hoki. Following his death, his ongoing roles were taken up by other voice actors.
Totani built an extensive and versatile filmography across a career spanning from 1974 to 2006. He was particularly known for his work in long-running shōnen series and mecha anime from the late 1970s through the 1990s. He frequently voiced supporting characters, antagonists, and comic relief figures, bringing a distinct presence to each performance.

In Fist of the North Star, he played multiple characters across the series, including the treacherous Jagi, the younger version of Ryūken, and Han from Fist of the North Star 2. For Fullmetal Alchemist, he provided the Japanese voice for Tim Marcoh, the State Alchemist who researched the Philosopher's Stone. He was also the voice of Pyunma, the mutant with super-speed powers designated 008, in the 1979 Cyborg 009 series.

In the Universal Century Gundam timeline, he voiced characters such as Commander Killing in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, Alpha A. Beyond anime, Totani was active in video game voice acting, most famously as the original Japanese voice of Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. He also voiced the character Leon in the Dead or Alive series and Doku in Ninja Gaiden. He had a career in dubbing foreign films and television series into Japanese, providing voices for actors such as Danny Trejo in Con Air, Peter Greene in The Mask, and Cress Williams in the medical drama ER. His son, Kimito Totani, is also an actor and voice actor.
