TV-Series
Description
Kanade Takatsuki is a central figure in the narrative, distinguished as the second female protagonist. Her identity is that of a demon, a being from a distinct lineage that coexists alongside humans within the world of the series. She is physically characterized by her purple hair, often styled with blunt bangs and a ponytail, and green eyes. Her appearance is that of a teenager, and she is sometimes associated with a miko cosplay aesthetic.
In terms of personality, Kanade is portrayed as having a dual nature. While she can be reserved, she is also resolute and capable of fierce action, particularly when protecting those she cares about. Her core motivation stems from her developing feelings for the main protagonist, Tomoharu Natsume. She becomes deeply attached to him, affectionately calling him "Tomo," a privilege reserved for only a select few close to him. This affection drives many of her actions, from her initial attempts to secure a powerful artifact known as the Asura Machina to her later decisions that profoundly shape the course of events.
Kanade's role in the story is multifaceted. She is initially introduced in a confrontational manner, attacking Tomoharu in his home while searching for an extractor and an Asura Machina. This enmity quickly transforms into alliance when she bursts in to save him from Reishirou Saeki, the First Student Council President, who had declared Tomoharu must die. Following this, she and Tomoharu are coerced into joining the Science Club, which becomes a central group in their struggles. Her most significant function in the plot, however, is tied to the nature of female demons. A demon in female form can form a contract with a human through a physical and intimate union. This contract grants the human partner immense power, transforming him into an Asura Cryin, and simultaneously gives birth to a powerful, child-like entity known as a Familiar. In Kanade's case, she makes this contract with Tomoharu, resulting in the creation of their Familiar, an owl-like creature named Persephone.
Her key relationships are the engine of the plot. Her bond with Tomoharu Natsume is the most important, evolving from strangers to allies to intimate partners and co-creators of a Familiar. She also has significant ties to her demon family. Her father is the head of a large demon association, known as the Takatsuki-gumi, and she is protected by his subordinates, including being entrusted to Tomoharu's care when a demon hunter begins attacking her kind. Her family connections extend to a grandfather, Uzumasa Shioizumi, and a cousin, Ritsu Shioizumi.
Throughout the series, Kanade undergoes notable development. She transitions from a mysterious assailant to a trusted friend, and finally to Tomoharu's contracted partner and the mother of his Familiar, Persephone. This development solidifies her position as a coequal lead alongside the primary heroine. In terms of abilities, as a demon, Kanade possesses inherent supernatural powers. She is known as a dual-natured fire-wielder, capable of generating and manipulating flames in combat. Her ultimate power is realized through the contract with Tomoharu, which produces Persephone. This Familiar acts as an extension of Kanade's will, instinctively protecting Tomoharu. Persephone can transform from a small owl into a giant, flame-spewing dragon-like creature, providing formidable support in battle.
