Description
Hiwako Torishima is a contracting demon aligned with the character Tokiya. She is sometimes referred to by the nickname Kori Hime, which translates to Ice Princess, a moniker that reflects both her cold appearance and reserved personality. Her Japanese name is written as 鳳島 氷羽子, and she was born on July 11. She has black hair that falls to her waist and blue eyes, though this changes under certain circumstances. As a demon, she is not originally human, but her nature is tied directly to the First World and its laws.
Hiwako presents a calm, collected, and distant demeanor consistent with her icy nickname. She is serious and driven, not prone to frivolous behavior or needless emotion. Her quest for truth is the central pillar of her identity: she chose to become Tokiya’s contracting demon specifically to uncover fundamental answers about the world, learning where it begins and where it ends. This suggests a philosophical or existential motivation, seeking to understand the very fabric of reality rather than fighting for simple power or revenge.
In the story of Asura Cryin 2, Hiwako serves as a direct adversary to the protagonist, Tomoharu, and his own contracting demon, Kanade. Her primary combat ability involves the use of a frozen naginata, a type of polearm, named Hyou-ou, which she wields in battle. A notable physical trait of Hiwako is the behavior of her eyes. Like Kanade, her eyes originally had different colors when she unleashed her full demonic abilities. However, after she becomes a contractor for the Asura Cryin, a significant shift occurs: both of her eyes change to a green color, matching a similar transformation observed in Kanade.
Her key relationship is with her contractor, Tokiya. Together with Tokiya, she clashes directly with Tomoharu and his group at a critical location known as the Central Vortex, aiming to settle matters once and for all. She is responsible for setting a trap that Tomoharu and his allies fall into, leading to a direct confrontation. Her primary opponent is Kanade, as the two share similar power dynamics as contracting demons. Hiwako is eventually defeated by the combined efforts of Tomoharu and Kanade.
Following this defeat, Hiwako undergoes a profound transformation. When the irregular elements from the First World, including demons, Asura Machina, and the Daughters, vanish from existence, she is affected directly. Her contract with Tokiya ends, and she is reborn as an ordinary human girl. Her development concludes with her transferring to Rakurowa High School. There, she joins the Science Club, and in a final soft moment, gives a large smile to a character named Takuma, causing him to fall for her at first sight. This ending marks a complete departure from her previous life as a demon warrior, allowing her to experience normalcy. Her notable abilities include demonic transformation, which altered her eye color to signal her power, and her skilled use of the ice weapon Hyou-ou in combat.
