TV-Series
Description
Miki is the second Guardian Character to hatch from Amu Hinamori's Shugo Eggs. She represents Amu's desire to be more cool, artistic, level-headed, and occasionally disobedient. She is one of four Guardian Characters belonging to Amu, alongside Ran, Su, and Dia. Miki appears as a small childlike figure with short blue hair cut in a bob, blue eyes, and a blue-themed outfit that includes a sky-blue beret decorated with a spade, a light blue long-sleeved shirt, and half-cut pants. Her overall aesthetic is tomboyish and matching the spade symbol.
In terms of background, Miki first appeared when Amu's second egg hatched early in the series. Initially she was frightened by Amu's outburst and ran away, but she soon became an integral part of Amu's daily life and her mission to purify X Eggs. As a Guardian Character, Miki embodies Amu's artistic and creative side, often seen sketching in a small notepad that can expand so humans can read its drawings. She is known for her cool, calm, and collected personality, which contrasts with Ran's energetic nature and Su's gentle sweetness. Miki is also described as incredibly gifted as an artist and the most level-headed among the three main Guardian Characters. She can be shy at times but also outgoing when necessary, and she shows a thoughtful, introspective side that makes her a reliable advisor to Amu.
Miki's primary motivation is to support Amu in discovering and embracing her true self. Like all Guardian Characters, she exists to help Amu realize her hidden potential and to guard her heart. Miki is particularly driven by a desire to express creativity and to encourage Amu to be more responsible and stylish. She also takes pleasure in helping Amu make fashion choices and devising strategies to solve problems.
In the story, Miki plays a central role as one of Amu's key allies. Through the process of Character Change, Amu can tap into Miki's artistic sense and become more creatively inclined. When Amu performs a Character Transformation using the Humpty Lock, she becomes Amulet Spade. In this form, Amu wears a white frilly blouse with light blue pants, long striped stockings, and a garter belt, all in a blue theme. The clover decoration on the Humpty Lock turns blue. Amulet Spade's signature attack is Colorful Canvas, in which Amu wields a giant paintbrush that can produce powerful colorful blasts to purify corrupted eggs or fight enemies. Miki's ability after Character Transformation also includes enhanced artistic skills and the capacity to create visual illusions. During transformation, Miki recites the phrase "Drew, Draw, Drawn."
Key relationships for Miki include her fellow Guardian Characters. She interacts often with Ran, Su, and Dia, and they work together as a team to assist Amu. She has shown a particular interest in other Guardian Characters: Kiseki, the Guardian Character of Tadase Hotori, and Yoru, the Guardian Character of Ikuto Tsukiyomi. Miki has commented that Yoru is cool and his tail is cute, and she has also shown fondness for Musashi, Kairi Sanjo's Guardian Character. These interests subtly mirror the romantic dynamics in Amu's own heart, though Miki herself is not human and lacks a personal romantic arc.
Throughout the series, including the third installment Shugo Chara Party, Miki continues to support Amu in her duties as the Joker of the Seiyo Academy Guardians. She appears in the segment Shugo Chara Encyclopedia, where each Guardian Character's traits are showcased, and she also stars in the mini-series Pucchi Puchi, which focuses on the adventures of the Guardian Characters at the Royal Garden. In Shugo Chara Party, Miki and the others help Amu guide new Guardian Apprentices Rikka Hiiragi and Hikaru Ichinomiya. Miki remains a consistent presence, offering her artistic insights and calm judgment as they face new challenges. Her development is tied to Amu's growing self-confidence; as Amu becomes more comfortable with her artistic and level-headed side, Miki's own presence becomes stronger and more integrated into Amu's personality.
Overall, Miki is defined by her artistic talent, cool demeanor, and unwavering loyalty to Amu. She is a Guardian Character who represents the importance of creativity, responsibility, and staying calm under pressure, serving as both a source of inspiration and a practical tool in Amu's journey of self-discovery.
