Description
In the narrative of InuYasha: The Final Act, Ahome, whose original name is Kagome Higurashi, is a fifteen-year-old girl from modern-day Tokyo who serves as the central human protagonist. She is the modern reincarnation of the powerful priestess Kikyo, a connection that fundamentally shapes her destiny and her spiritual abilities. As a middle school student living at the Higurashi Shrine, her life changes forever when she is pulled into the Sengoku period, the warring states era of Japan, through an ancient well on her family's property.

Kagome possesses a personality defined by a profound sense of empathy, selflessness, and inner strength. She is consistently described as having a noble and kind heart, and she acts with a deep, unconditional compassion for others, often prioritizing their well-being over her own emotional comfort. This is most evident in her complex relationship with Kikyo, her romantic rival and former incarnation. Despite experiencing natural feelings of jealousy and insecurity regarding Kikyo's deep bond with Inuyasha, Kagome repeatedly demonstrates extraordinary maturity. She accepts Kikyo's importance to Inuyasha, tolerates his need to see her alone, and even risks her own life to save Kikyo from Naraku's miasma, not only for Inuyasha's sake but because she believes saving a life is inherently right. Her capacity to feel jealousy and immediately recognize it as a natural, manageable emotion, rather than a destructive one, showcases her psychological resilience and self-awareness. While she can be temperamental and is known for her powerful sit command that forces Inuyasha to the ground, this behavior is a humorous counterpoint to her otherwise caring and forgiving nature.

Her primary motivation throughout The Final Act is twofold. On the surface, she is dedicated to collecting the scattered shards of the Shikon Jewel, known as the Jewel of Four Souls, and defeating the evil half-demon Naraku. However, her deeper, more personal drive is to remain at Inuyasha's side and protect him. She is acutely aware that her presence gives him strength, and her love for him is holistic, accepting all parts of him, including his lingering pain over Kikyo. This love is her central guiding force, even when it causes her personal suffering.

In the story, Kagome acts as the group's moral compass and a source of spiritual power. Her role is that of a modern-day priestess, or miko, who can sense, see, and purify the shards of the Shikon Jewel, a skill she shares only with Kikyo. She is the emotional anchor for Inuyasha and her companions, which include the lecherous monk Miroku, the demon-slayer Sango, the young fox demon Shippo, and the nekomata Kirara. Her most significant relationship is, of course, with Inuyasha. Their romance is the emotional core of the series, beginning with distrust and growing into a deep, albeit stubbornly unspoken, love. She also has a rivalry with Kikyo, but it is a nuanced one that evolves into a form of mutual understanding. Other key relationships include her friendship with the wolf-demon Koga, who constantly professes his love for her, and her family in the modern era: her mother, her younger brother Sota, and her grandfather.

The Final Act is where Kagome undergoes her most significant development. Throughout the series, her spiritual powers are partially sealed by the evil will within the Shikon Jewel. This seal is strengthened by Magatsuhi, a malevolent spirit born from the jewel, causing her to lose even the abilities she had. It is only after Inuyasha and his brother Sesshomaru combine their strength to destroy Magatsuhi that Kagome's powers are fully awakened. A pivotal moment in her growth occurs during her trial on Mount Azusa, where she must confront her own insecurities and jealousy regarding Kikyo to obtain a sacred bow. By acknowledging her feelings and asserting that she knows Inuyasha in ways Kikyo never could, she proves her worth and passes the test. In the final confrontation with Naraku, she is the one who delivers the killing blow, shooting an arrow through the corrupted Shikon Jewel. In a moment of ultimate temptation, the jewel tries to force her to make a selfish wish that would trap her inside it forever. Instead, drawing strength from her love for Inuyasha, she makes the one wish that can truly end the cycle of suffering: she wishes for the Shikon Jewel itself to disappear forever. Her selfless desire purifies the jewel, and it vanishes. This act completes her journey from a schoolgirl with latent powers to a fully realized priestess of immense strength.

Kagome's notable abilities are intrinsically linked to her spiritual heritage as Kikyo's reincarnation. Her primary skill is the power of purification, which she can channel through sacred arrows. These arrows are devastatingly effective against demons and can negate evil curses and miasma. She possesses the unique ability to see the shards of the Shikon Jewel and sense their presence. She can also create powerful spiritual barriers, known as kekkai, which are force fields that repel demons. In The Final Act, after her powers are fully unsealed, she reaches a level of strength equal to, if not greater than, Kikyo's, making her one of the most powerful priestesses in the series' history. Her final act of wishing the Shikon Jewel out of existence represents the ultimate expression of her purifying power.
