Description
Moryomaru is a massive demonic construct that appears in the later portion of InuYasha: The Final Act. He is not a direct incarnation of Naraku but was created through the efforts of Hakudoshi, one of Naraku's incarnations. Hakudoshi assembled Moryomaru by combining numerous lesser demons into a giant, golem-like body that initially lacked any true personality, soul, or will of its own. The entity called the Infant, which holds Naraku's heart, was later placed inside Moryomaru by Kanna, granting the construct a brain and a driving consciousness. From that point, Moryomaru becomes a vessel for the Infant and acts as an independent being with its own ambitions.
Moryomaru's background is rooted in rebellion against Naraku. The Infant, despite being part of Naraku, desires to seize power for itself and uses Moryomaru as its physical form and weapon. Over time, Moryomaru develops a ruthless and calculating personality, driven by a deep hatred for both Inuyasha and Naraku. He seeks to surpass Naraku and claim the Shikon Jewel shards for himself, viewing his creator as a rival to be destroyed. His motivation is to gather enough power to become the strongest demon and eliminate anyone who stands in his way, including his own maker.
In the story, Moryomaru serves as a major antagonist during the middle part of The Final Act. His role is to challenge the main characters directly, often engaging multiple opponents at once. He pursues Kohaku, Koga, and Naraku for their Shikon Jewel fragments, and he battles Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Kikyo, and others. At one point he acquires the armor of the turtle demon Meioju, which makes him nearly invulnerable. He even succeeds in destroying Sesshomaru's sword Tokijin before being forced to retreat. Later, he absorbs the demon siblings Ginka and Kinka to strengthen his armor further. His confrontations push the protagonists to their limits and force Sesshomaru to develop new powers.
Key relationships include his connection to the Infant, which is his true core and source of will. He is hostile toward Naraku despite being created from his power, and he views Inuyasha's group as obstacles. He also interacts with Byakuya, another of Naraku's incarnations, who observes his battles without directly intervening. Moryomaru's rivalry with Naraku culminates when he attempts to devour Naraku to absorb his power, a move that ultimately leads to his downfall.
Development is limited but clear: he begins as a mindless puppet, gains a sentient and ambitious personality through the Infant, and grows in power by absorbing demons and their abilities. His final form is achieved when he adds the powers of Kinka and Ginka, becoming even more formidable. His end comes when he swallows Naraku, only for Naraku to absorb all of Moryomaru's accumulated demonic energy from the inside, using it to be reborn and leaving Moryomaru destroyed.
Notable abilities stem from his composite nature. He can fire powerful energy blasts from his arms and reshape his body at will, turning it soft to absorb blows or hardening it to shatter stone. Because he is made from many demons, he possesses the combined abilities of all those that were used in his creation. He can absorb other demons to gain their strengths, as seen with Meioju, Ginka, and Kinka. His body is enormous, approximately one hundred feet long, making him a tremendous physical threat. He also demonstrates the capacity to withstand attacks from multiple high-level opponents simultaneously and can break even powerful demonic swords.
