Roberto Draghetti was an esteemed Italian voice actor, widely recognized for his extensive contributions to the dubbing of animated series and films for the Italian audience. Born in Rome on August 24, 1960, he began his career in the performing arts as a theatre actor in 1980 before transitioning to voice acting a decade later. Over a career that spanned more than three decades, he became a familiar and beloved voice in Italian animation until his sudden death from a heart attack on July 24, 2020, at the age of 59.

While Draghetti was the official Italian voice for numerous Hollywood actors in live-action films, including Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba, and Terry Crews, his work in animation was equally prolific and diverse. He lent his voice to a wide array of characters across various genres and franchises. In the world of anime, he took on several prominent roles. He voiced the powerful villain Douglas Bullet in the film One Piece Stampede. He was the voice of Ishikawa in the Ghost in the Shell franchise, featuring in Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, as well as in Arise and earlier films. His other anime credits included the role of Zachs Cromwell in Levius, Galeroth Felgrimm in Ni no Kuni, Master Moebius in Fresh Pretty Cure, and Scorpion in Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!. He also served as the narrator for the Italian-language versions of the Pokémon films Pokémon 4Ever and Pokémon Heroes - Latias & Latios. His work extended to the role of Giro in the film Arashi no Yoru ni.

Beyond Japanese anime, Draghetti was a prominent figure in Italian dubbing for international animation. He was particularly well-known for his work in the Transformers franchise, voicing Starscream in several series including Transformers: Cybertron, and later taking on the role of Optimus Prime in the Netflix series Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege. He also voiced Gorilla Grodd in the animated film Batman Ninja. His versatility extended to major Hollywood animated features, where he was the voice of Stoick the Vast in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise and Maurice in the Madagascar films. He also contributed to long-running television series, providing voices for various characters in The Simpsons, South Park, and as Eddy in Ed, Edd n Eddy.

Throughout his career, Roberto Draghetti demonstrated a remarkable range, moving effortlessly between heroic leaders, comedic sidekicks, and menacing villains. His deep and versatile voice became a staple for Italian viewers of animation, leaving behind a rich legacy of work that continues to be enjoyed posthumously. His daughter, Malvina Draghetti, has also followed in his footsteps as a voice actor.
