Description
Celcia Marieclaire is the elf priestess and most powerful sorcerer in the fantasy world where the story takes place. As a high-ranking magical authority, she is tall, blonde, and often presents a composed and level-headed exterior, though this facade is easily broken. Rather than being truly calm, she is prone to losing her patience quickly, leading to a personality that has been described as slightly temperamental or even a bit psychotic in her reactions to the chaos around her.
Celcia's central role in the narrative is that of the unwilling catalyst and guide. She is the one who initially attempts to transport the human protagonists Junpei, Ritsuko, and Airi back to Japan. However, she becomes distracted during the spellcasting, which causes the pages of her spellbook to scatter across the world and imprint themselves as tattoos on the bodies of various elves. This accident binds her fate to the humans, and she is driven by a strong sense of responsibility to fix her mistake and recover the fragments. Her primary motivation is to send the humans home, partly to atone for her error but also because she finds their presence wreaks havoc on her world.
The core of her character is defined by her volatile relationship with the martial artist Junpei Ryuzouji. They are constantly at odds, engaging in frequent and loud arguments. This animosity stems from his role in interrupting her original spell and his general lack of respect for her magical abilities, which he often doubts and mocks. Despite their public hostility, a deeper, more complex dynamic exists, as Celcia harbors genuine romantic feelings for Junpei, though she usually conceals this affection behind a mask of irritation and conflict.
A significant recurring complication for Celcia is her propensity for getting trapped in animal forms. Her body serves as the repository for the recovered spell fragments, which attach to her. If a fragment attaches while she is transformed, she becomes stuck in that shape. Early in the journey, she willingly transforms into a small dog named Pochi, only to become trapped in that form after a fragment imprints on her. Later in the adventure, she suffers a similar fate and becomes stuck as a panda. These transformations are a source of great indignity for her and contribute significantly to the comedic misfortune she endures throughout the series. Beyond her powerful magic, which is considered the strongest among elves, she also displays an uncanny knack for retrieving the spell fragments from other elves.
