Description
Loke is a young man of average height with short, spiky orange hair and black eyes, usually dressed in a stylish black suit with a high-collared shirt and sunglasses. He is first introduced as a member of the Fairy Tail guild, known for his flirtatious nature and reputation as a popular choice for a boyfriend among female fans. However, his true identity is revealed to be Leo, the Celestial Spirit known as the Lion, who is the leader of the twelve Golden Zodiac Keys. His key is currently owned by Lucy Heartfilia. Loke's background is marked by tragedy. He was originally the Celestial Spirit of Karen Lilica, a mage from the Blue Pegasus guild who became arrogant and abusive toward her spirits, treating them as tools. When Karen attempted to punish the timid spirit Aries by forcing her to remain in the human world for seven days, an act that could have killed her, Loke intervened by taking Aries' place. He refused to return to the Celestial Spirit World until Karen agreed to sever her contracts with both him and Aries, thereby blocking her ability to summon any other spirits. Karen stubbornly refused, and Loke remained in the human world for three months. Despite his own vitality draining, he eventually decided to forgive her, only to learn that she had died during a mission. Because she could not summon other spirits while he was present, Loke blamed himself for her death, believing his actions had led to her demise. Overwhelmed by guilt, he exiled himself from the Celestial Spirit World and adopted the human alias Loke, joining Fairy Tail. Personality-wise, Loke presents a charming, confident, and flirtatious exterior, often joking and pursuing romantic attention. Beneath this facade, however, he carries deep sorrow and guilt over his past. He is fundamentally kind-hearted, protective, and loyal, especially toward those he cares about. His primary motivation stems from his guilt over Karen's death and his desire to atone. He initially avoids close relationships with female Celestial Spirit mages out of fear, but his protective instincts eventually override this, particularly when he saves Lucy from bandits. His role in the story is multifaceted. Within Fairy Tail, he acts as a supportive and sometimes comedic presence, often seen flirting with female members, though he nearly got himself killed once when he flirted with Erza. His most significant arc involves his disappearance and the revelation of his true nature. Lucy investigates his strange behavior and learns that he is a Celestial Spirit on the verge of fading from existence due to his prolonged stay in the human world. Desperate to save him, Lucy defies the rules of the Celestial Spirit World and attempts to open his gate by force, an action that nearly merges her life force with his. Her determination and the support of her other Zodiac spirits convince the Celestial Spirit King to make an exception, allowing Loke to return to the Spirit World as her spirit. After this, Loke becomes one of Lucy's most trusted and powerful spirits. He declares that he will be her backbone and self-proclaims himself her knight in shining armor. Key relationships include his bond with Lucy, whom he develops deep affection for and outright states he has abandoned his old ways to flirt only with her. He shares a complex history with Karen Lilica, marked by guilt and sorrow, and a protective relationship with Aries, the spirit he saved from abuse. His connection with the other Zodiac spirits is also significant, as he is their leader. Development is central to his character. He begins as a carefree flirt hiding immense guilt and evolves into a devoted spirit who finds redemption through Lucy's trust and selflessness. He actively supports his friends, such as when he aids Gray during efforts to make him an S-Class mage, and he participates in major conflicts, including battles against the Grimoire Heart guild where he helps free the spirit Capricorn from possession. Notable abilities include his proficiency as a Celestial Spirit, which grants him superhuman physical capabilities. He wields Regulus magic, a light-based power that he can imbue into his body for melee combat or project as ranged attacks. He also originally used Ring magic during his time as a human disguise in the guild. In the non-canon Eclipse arc, an alternate version of Leo wields a darker version of this magic called Dark Regulus.
