Description
Imitatia, also known by her real name Michelle, is a character from the Key of the Starry Sky arc. She is initially introduced as Michelle Lobster, a cheerful and clumsy young woman claiming to be a distant relative of Lucy Heartfilia. In truth, Imitatia is an animated doll who was a birthday present to Lucy from her mother, Layla Heartfilia. As a child, Lucy treated the doll as a little sister, even designing outfits for her. After Layla passed away, Lucy abandoned the doll because it brought back painful memories of her mother, and she eventually forgot about it entirely. The doll was kept in the Heartfilia Konzern's storage attic until the wizard Midnight retrieved her. He promised that she could stay by Lucy's side forever if she joined the Reborn Oración Seis, an act that transformed her into her powerful human-like form and made her a secondary antagonist of the arc.
As Michelle Lobster, Imitatia crafts a persona that is dedicated, passionate, and highly emotional. She claims to have spent over seven years searching for Lucy to honor the wishes of Lucy's father, Jude Heartfilia. She is often seen smiling cheerfully and is easily moved to tears, whether from happiness or sadness. Her clumsy and fragile demeanor makes others, including Lucy, feel a strong desire to protect her. She also displays a large appetite and an eager interest in Fairy Tail's activities. However, this personality is a complete fabrication. In her true form as a member of the Reborn Oración Seis, Imitatia is cold, serious, and mechanical in carrying out her mission. She is ruthless in combat, shows little emotion, and follows orders without question. Despite this cold exterior, remnants of her original purpose remain. She still calls Lucy "Nee-san" (big sister) and demonstrates an overprotective attitude toward her. She even sheds tears during her confrontation with Lucy before her identity is fully revealed, showing that her affection is not entirely false.
Imitatia's primary motivation is her deep-seated, desperate wish to be with Lucy again. This desire is so powerful that it makes her vulnerable to manipulation. Midnight exploits this longing, promising her an eternal reunion if she aids the Reborn Oración Seis in their plot involving the Infinity Clock. She is driven by the abandonment she felt as a doll and seeks to reclaim the bond she once shared with Lucy as a beloved younger sister. In the story's climax, when she learns that the plan will result in Lucy being lost inside the Infinity Clock forever, Imitatia's true feelings override her programming. She turns on Midnight in a fury, revealing that she never wanted to hurt Lucy but only wanted to spend time with her as they did in the past. Her role in the narrative is that of a tragic antagonist—a pawn whose love was twisted into a tool for evil.
Her most significant relationship is, of course, with Lucy Heartfilia, whom she views as her older sister. She was a gift from Layla Heartfilia, who is essentially her creator and original owner. Jude Heartfilia also plays a key role, as he knew of her true identity and, on his deathbed, wished for her to continue being Lucy's little sister. Within the Reborn Oración Seis, her relationship is purely transactional; she works for Midnight in exchange for the promise of being with Lucy forever. Over the course of the arc, Imitatia undergoes notable development. She begins as a deceptive antagonist but is ultimately redeemed by her enduring love for Lucy. In her final moments before being reverted to a lifeless doll, she apologizes to Lucy and asks for her forgiveness. After the arc concludes, Lucy takes the doll back to her apartment, keeping her as a memento and, symbolically, as her little sister once more.
Imitatia possesses several notable abilities, primarily centered around Transformation Magic, which she uses to assume the form of Michelle Lobster. In her true combat form, she is a highly skilled swordswoman, employing a unique flower-shaped shield that doubles as a bladed weapon. From within this shield, she can summon a large rose-themed sword. She also wears Vine Armor, from which she can unleash thorny vines to constrict and damage her opponents. Her body, being that of an animated doll, feels no pain, granting her immense resilience in battle and allowing her to fight effectively even after sustaining severe damage.
