Description
In the fourth season of the series, Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!, the character known as Baba is introduced as a legendary fairy. Her background is tied directly to the slumbering former Witch Queen, Majo Tourbillon. Baba was originally Majo Tourbillon's own fairy, but she was trapped and sealed away inside a locked chest that was placed near the sleeping queen. It is only when Hana, who had transformed herself into an older girl, accidentally uses magic that the chest is opened, freeing Baba from her long imprisonment.
Upon her release, Baba is initially portrayed as having a difficult and irritable personality. She shows little interest in her new circumstances and is openly dismissive and insulting toward the main characters, including Doremi and her friends, as well as the witch Majorika. In her first encounters, she refuses to be helpful, choosing instead to retreat back into her chest rather than offer any useful information or assistance. This behavior establishes her as a reluctant and somewhat antagonistic figure, whose selfishness makes the main plot more challenging for the protagonists in the early part of the season.
Baba's primary role in the story is to assist the young witches. The Witch Queen tasks Doremi and her friends with saving Majo Tourbillon, whose power is causing a sleeping curse to spread across worlds. To break the vines imprisoning the queen and stop the spread of black flowers that induce laziness, the girls must recreate a set of handmade gifts. These original gifts were made by Majo Tourbillon's six grandchildren and given to her. Baba is assigned to assist the girls with this specific mission, providing her knowledge and aid as they work in their transformed shop, Maho-Do, to craft these sentimental items.
Information on Baba's internal motivations is limited, but her actions are largely driven by her long-established connection to Majo Tourbillon. Having been the queen's fairy, she is aware that although the queen is asleep, she has been suffering. Consequently, Baba’s function in the narrative is to facilitate the emotional journey of awakening Tourbillon by guiding the creation of the gifts meant to remind the queen of happier times. Regarding her development, the initial depiction shows her as unlikable and uncooperative, but her role is fundamentally tied to a mission of healing and memory. While she is noted to be a legendary fairy, no specific or notable magical abilities are detailed beyond her inherent status and her specialized knowledge of Majo Tourbillon and the required handmade gifts. Her key relationship is with the slumbering queen, and her interactions with the main cast are defined by her initial reluctance and her eventual, though begrudging, cooperation with their mission.
