Description
Majorika, also known as Maggie Grigri in some localizations, is a central witch in the final season of the series. Her origins are deeply tied to the magical realm, as she was originally born as a rose in the garden of the Witch Queen, a status she shared with her rival Majo Ruka, making both of them potential heirs to the throne. She was later adopted by the kind witch Majo Ririka, whom she affectionately calls Mama Ririka, an act that fostered her fierce, long-standing rivalry with Majo Ruka over the ownership of the Maho-do shop in Misora City.

Physically, Majorika's appearance undergoes a dramatic transformation. Before her curse, she appeared as a thin, elderly witch with dark green hair styled in large oval buns and wearing a dark green one-piece outfit under a cloak with a purple collar. However, when Doremi Harukaze accidentally uncovered her true nature and shouted Witch, a curse transformed her into a small, green, frog-like creature. In this form, she has black button eyes, prominent red lips, and a single, curly strand of hair, which she cherishes as the last remnant of her former appearance. She retains her signature purple crystal ball as a necklace, which serves as a focal point for her magic. This frog state is her primary appearance for most of the series until the final season, when the curse is lifted, and she regains her original witch form.

Her personality is most often characterized as choleric, grumpy, and cantankerous. She frequently displays greed, a love for money, and a sharp tongue, often bickering with the young witch apprentices, Doremi in particular. She is also quite vain and has difficulty expressing vulnerability or admitting when she is wrong. Despite this rough and often irritable exterior, Majorika harbors a deep, unspoken affection for the girls, gradually coming to view them as surrogate daughters. This hidden devotion is revealed through her actions, such as when she spends exhausting nights caring for the infant witch Hana, often showing visible fatigue but continuing out of a sense of love and duty.

Majorika’s primary motivation throughout the story is to have her original form restored, which is the main reason she reluctantly agrees to mentor Doremi and her friends as witch apprentices. As the series progresses, her role evolves from a resentful mentor to a dedicated guardian. She runs the Maho-do shop, which serves as a gateway between the human and witch worlds, and its purpose changes across seasons from a magic shop to a flower shop, then a bakery, and finally a handmade crafts store. Her motivations expand beyond self-interest to include protecting and supporting the apprentices and the baby witch Hana, whom she becomes a secondary maternal figure for.

Her key relationships are central to her character development. The most significant is her long-running rivalry with Majo Ruka, which eventually softens into a friendly companionship, with the two even becoming drinking partners. Her bond with the apprentices, especially Doremi, shifts from pure transactional annoyance to mutual respect and genuine care. She shows particular pride in Hazuki’s intelligence, Aiko’s business sense, Onpu’s profitability, and the other girls’ growing competence. Her relationship with her fairy companion, Lala, is close and teasing, with Lala often pointing out Majorika’s flaws while clearly caring for her well-being.

Majorika’s development is marked by a journey from selfishness to self-sacrifice. Initially greedy and only looking out for her own interests, she grows to deeply care for her apprentices. In the final season, Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!, this development reaches its peak when she selflessly gives up her magic to save the girls from an eternal sleep. After the thorns of sorrow from the previous Witch Queen, Majo Tourbillon, are dissolved, her witch frog curse is lifted for good. In the series finale, after the apprentices choose to live as humans rather than become full-fledged witches, Majorika returns to the Witch World to care for Hana, who is set to become the next Witch Queen.

Regarding her notable abilities, Majorika is a powerful witch with strong magical skills. Her most distinctive technique involves enchanting magical objects by weaving strands of her own hair into them. Even while trapped in her frog form, she retains the ability to cast spells, which she uses for personal comfort, transport, and other practical purposes. Her purple crystal ball is a key focus for her magic, and she has demonstrated the ability to create powerful magical items and guide her apprentices through complex magical exams. Her extensive knowledge stems from her long history, which spans at least 800 years, and she was once appointed by the Witch Queen to care for a baby witch who later became Majo Doron.
