Description
Doremi Harukaze is the main protagonist of the fourth and final season of her series, Ojamajo Doremi DOKKAAN!. She is an elementary school girl who has been a witch apprentice for some time by this point in the story. Her most distinctive physical features are her bright red hair, often styled into two large buns or odango, one of which is adorned with a music note decoration, reflecting her name which is derived from the musical scale do-re-mi. Her designated magical color is pink, which is reflected in her apprentice outfit and accessories.
By the time of DOKKAAN!, Doremi has grown and faced many challenges, but her core personality remains that of a lively, energetic, and deeply kind-hearted girl. She is known for her clumsy nature and often proclaims herself to be the unluckiest pretty girl in the world when things go wrong. Despite her tendency to be impulsive and sometimes selfish, her primary motivation is always her care for the people around her. Throughout the series, her great love is steak, and a running joke involves her often being unable to eat it due to some misfortune. She also has a complicated relationship with playing the piano, stemming from a childhood recital failure.
In DOKKAAN!, Doremi's central role revolves around the magical baby, Hana, who has rapidly aged herself into a preteen to attend school with her caretakers. Doremi acts as one of Hana's primary mothers, a responsibility that has defined her journey since the second season. The story's conflict deepens when Hana's reckless wish to grow up shatters her magical crystal, creating a major problem for both the human and witch worlds. Doremi's motivation throughout the season is to protect Hana and find a way to resolve the crisis caused by a powerful curse. This leads to the most significant development for her character: when faced with the choice of becoming a full-fledged witch, which would grant her an unnaturally long life, Doremi ultimately decides to renounce her magic. She leads her friends in this choice, affirming her belief in living a normal human life and valuing her bonds with family and friends over magical power.
Her key relationships are central to her growth. She shares an unbreakable bond of friendship with her fellow apprentices, Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo, and has overcome a past rivalry to become close friends with Onpu Segawa. Her relationship with her younger sister, Pop Harukaze, evolves from jealousy to a mature and protective sibling pride. Romance also plays a part in her story, as she has a long-standing, bickering relationship with her classmate Tetsuya Kotake, which holds the potential for deeper feelings.
As a witch apprentice, Doremi possesses magical abilities, though her spells are famously prone to misfiring due to her distractible nature. To perform magic, she uses a pink-colored Magic Sphere and recites her signature incantation, Pirika Pirilala Poporina Peperuto. In DOKKAAN!, her magical role is not about gaining new powers but about learning the true cost of magic and ultimately making the mature decision to live without it, a choice that defines her final development as a character who values human connection above all else.
