TV-Series
Description
Mayumi Kinniku, also referred to as King Kinniku, is the father of Suguru Kinniku, the protagonist of the original Kinnikuman series, and the 57th King of Planet Kinniku. He is a Seigi Chojin, a justice-aligned superhuman wrestler, and a former two-time Chojin Olympic champion as well as a Universal Grappling Champion. He has the character for king written on his forehead. His background establishes him as a legendary figure in the history of the Kinniku clan, though he does not know the three great secrets of the clan and never uses the Face Flash technique.
Personality-wise, Mayumi is portrayed as a flawed and often comedic father figure. He is boastful, hot-tempered, and prone to poor judgment. His strict training methods caused his eldest son, Ataru, to run away from home. In response, he raised his second son, Suguru, with excessive indulgence, which resulted in Suguru growing up as a clumsy and foolish child. Mayumi frequently quarreled with Suguru, and his actions included mistaking his infant son for a pig and accidentally abandoning him on Earth. Despite these failings, he is genuinely proud of Suguru and cheers loudly for him during battles, often bragging that Suguru is his son. He has a long-standing rivalry with Harabote Muscle, and the two frequently engage in exhibition matches that are unpopular with younger fans. He is married to Sayuri Kinniku, and the two share a loving relationship, though she is often embarrassed by his behavior. His only cooking skill is making curry.
Mayumi's motivations are rooted in a desire to uphold the legacy of the Kinniku royal family, but he lacks the wisdom and discipline to be an effective parent or ruler in practice. His role in the story is primarily a minor supporting one, serving as a source of exposition about the Kinniku lineage and as a contrast to Suguru's own growth into a competent hero. He appears in both the original Kinnikuman series and its sequel, Kinnikuman Nisei, where he is known as Mayumi Muscle in the English version.
Key relationships include his sons Ataru and Suguru, his wife Sayuri, and his rival Harabote Muscle. His development is minimal; he remains a largely static character whose primary function is to highlight the consequences of his parenting mistakes and to provide occasional comic relief. Notable abilities include his wrestling techniques, such as the Iron Claw and the Kinniku Flash. He possesses a Chojin Power of 650,000 and stands at a height of 193 cm with a weight of 115 kg. His physical prowess is significant, but his legacy is overshadowed by his son's achievements.
