Description
Noah is a young man who originally lives in the dystopian city of Calm in the world of Kiba. He is the closest friend of the protagonist Zed, a bond that forms during their childhood when Zed saves Noah from bullies. Unlike Zed, who is impulsive and frequently in trouble with authority, Noah is regarded as an upstanding and model citizen in Calm. He is known for his gentle and serious nature, and he often defends Zed when others speak ill of him. Despite the disapproval of those around him, Noah remains loyal to Zed because of their shared history.
Noah suffers from a chronic illness that forces him to wear a brace around his neck and spine. This condition severely limits his physical capabilities and gives him a life expectancy of only thirty years. Any activity involving drastic movement threatens to shorten his life further. This frail physical state contrasts with his sharp intellect, and he is often described as the brainy counterpart to Zed's hotheadedness. As a token of their friendship, Noah gives Zed two feathers attached to a round piece of metal.
After Zed is transported to the world of Templar through a portal, Noah eventually follows when he is teleported to a militaristic land called Neotopia. There, he is taken in by a man named Carter and his wife, and he begins to build a new life. Later in the series, Noah comes to be known as Lord Dolga and is found working for the Tuskan faction. His role in the story deepens significantly as he becomes more entangled in the conflict surrounding the Key Spirits. Noah receives a Key Spirit named Sachura from a group of nomadic people known as the Seekers shortly after entering the other world. Sachura is one of the six Key Spirits central to the series mythology. Noah later reclaims Sachura after it is taken by the character Mirred in her failed attempt to control the entity Tusker.
Noah's motivations evolve over the course of the story. Initially driven by his friendship with Zed and a desire to find his place in the new world, he gradually becomes more focused on gaining power. His illness and physical weakness in Calm seem to fuel a need to prove himself and assert his own strength. This leads to a significant transformation in his personality, as he becomes more ambitious and willing to pursue power even if it puts him at odds with his oldest friend. His relationship with Zed is the central emotional anchor of his character arc, shifting from childhood loyalty to rivalry and confrontation as both characters are drawn into the larger conflict.
Noah's key relationships include his bond with Zed, which is tested severely as the story progresses. He also develops connections with the people of Neotopia, particularly Carter and his wife, as well as a character named Kira, who becomes an ally. In Neotopia, he is influenced by a woman named Diana, who leads him toward embracing the absolute law and order of that society. His allegiance later shifts to the Tuskan faction, where he assumes the identity of Lord Dolga and becomes an antagonist figure.
In terms of abilities, Noah is a Shard Caster, capable of summoning and controlling Spirits through the use of Shards. His primary Spirit is Sachura, a Key Spirit that grants him considerable power. As Lord Dolga, he demonstrates the ability to wield multiple Key Spirits, including Dynamis and Shadin, which he takes from other characters during the events leading to the summoning of Tusker. He is also shown to be highly intelligent and strategic, using his mind to compensate for his physical limitations.
Noah's character undergoes significant development throughout the series. He starts as a frail, gentle friend supporting Zed from the sidelines, transitions into a determined figure seeking power and meaning in the new world, and eventually becomes a direct adversary to Zed. Their final confrontation is a pivotal moment in the series, forcing both characters to reckon with their personal histories and the choices they have made. By the end of the anime, Noah is seen in a wheelchair alongside Roya, and he throws a paper airplane that lands near Zed, suggesting a lingering connection between the two former friends.
