TV-Series
Description
Jura Basil Elden serves as the secondary leader of the Dread fighting force aboard the pirate ship Nirvana. She is one of the three pilots whose Dread fighters were exposed to the light of Paexis, granting them the unique ability to merge with Hibiki Tokai's Vanguard to form a powerful Vandread unit. She was born on August 31.

Personality-wise, Jura is known for her vanity and a somewhat spoiled nature. She is extremely proud of her long, blonde hair, which she takes great care of, and she places a high value on her appearance and being perceived as glamorous or cool. Her approach to leadership is hindered by her inexperience and a certain immaturity, as she tends to be reliant on her close companion Barnette and can be naive in serious situations. Despite these flaws, Jura maintains an optimistic and bright view on life, often bringing a lighter energy to the group.

Jura's primary motivation in the series is deeply connected to her own vanity and a desire for recognition. Initially, she is intensely driven to successfully unite her Dread with Hibiki's Vanguard after witnessing Dita and Meia achieve this feat, seeing it as a way to create something magnificent and glamorous. In Vandread: The Second Stage, her focus shifts to a more personal goal; she spends a considerable amount of time trying to convince Hibiki to have a child with her. Her role on the Nirvana is that of a frontline Dread pilot. While she is expected to lead the other pilots alongside Meia, her effectiveness in combat is notable, but her strategic command is less developed than her rival's.

Jura has several key relationships that define her interactions. Her bond with fellow pilot Barnette Orangello is particularly significant. The two are almost always together, with Jura often depending on Barnette for support in her various schemes and personal endeavors, leading many to assume they are romantically involved. She also shares a competitive but cooperative dynamic with Meia Gresol, the leader of the Dread force, as Jura is less skilled as a commander but remains a capable pilot. Her relationship with Hibiki is largely instrumental, driven by her desire to use his power for her own goals, whether to form a stronger mecha or to have a child.

Throughout the series, Jura experiences limited but notable development. She begins as a pilot obsessed with showing off her abilities and proving her worth through flashy successes. When she finally unites with Hibiki, she is initially shocked and disappointed to see her Vandread, the Red Claw, which resembles a large crab rather than a sleek and beautiful machine. This experience forces her to reconcile her vanity with the practical, less glamorous role of a defensive fighter.

As a pilot, Jura commands a red Dread fighter that can combine with Hibiki's Vanguard to form Vandread Jura, also known as the Red Claw. This particular Vandread is shaped like a red crab and is specialized for defense. Its primary weapons are a set of green, flying discs that orbit the machine. These discs possess a powerful and versatile ability to generate energy shields that can be scaled to cover immense objects, even up to the size of a planet. The shields can also be manipulated to pull in or expel objects, such as bodies of water, to use as projectiles against enemy ships. The discs themselves can function as individual cannons to attack multiple targets from various angles, making the Vandread a formidable defensive bulwark for the Nirvana. On a personal level, Jura carries a rapier as a sidearm, though she rarely has the opportunity to demonstrate her skill with it in direct combat.
