Mitsue Shijou is a middle school girl and the best friend of the protagonist, Yurie Hitotsubashi. She has straight, medium-length brown hair that is parted without bangs and usually wears glasses. Her school uniform is a short-sleeved serafuku with a white sailor collar, a red neckerchief, and a grey pleated skirt. Mitsue is a very down-to-earth and practical person, often serving as the grounded voice of reason among her friends. Despite her sensible nature, she secretly wishes that more interesting things would happen in her life, particularly in matters of romance. She is close friends with Yurie and Matsuri Saegusa, and the three often spend time together. Mitsue has known Yurie since childhood, which gives her a deep understanding of Yurie’s personality and mannerisms. Yurie frequently turns to Mitsue for advice; though her suggestions are simple and rooted in common sense, they are always correct. A notable ability is that Mitsue is occasionally possessed by the god Yashima when he needs to communicate with people or perform. Throughout the series, her role is primarily that of a supportive and loyal friend who helps Yurie navigate both everyday life and her unexpected duties as a goddess, while quietly hoping for a little more excitement in her own world.
