Description
Ozzel, also rendered as Ozel or Ozer, is a supporting character in the anime Slayers Revolution and its sequel Slayers Evolution-R. She appears as a young woman with dark red hair and ochre eyes, typically dressed as a maid. In the story she is first introduced as the attendant of Gioconda, who is initially believed to be the owner of a vessel called the Hellmaster's Jar. Ozzel states that her orders are to guard the jar and its owner, and nearly everything she does in both seasons follows from that single directive.

Despite her human appearance, Ozzel is not a human being. She is an artificial human doll created to protect the Hellmaster's Jar, which holds the soul of Rezo the Red Priest, and to serve whoever possesses it. Her body is extremely lifelike, but her constructed nature is revealed through comedic moments in which parts of her, such as her head, come off unexpectedly. In keeping with her artificial design, she remains unfailingly polite toward everyone she meets, including her enemies, regardless of the situation.

Ozzel's motivations are tied entirely to her duty rather than to any particular allegiance. She obeys Gioconda when ordered to summon the assassin Zuuma, and later she allows the captured protagonists to escape while telling them about her connection to Rezo. When the group reaches Gioconda's underground arena, however, Ozzel fights alongside Gioconda and Zuuma, explaining that she is bound by contract to do so. During the ensuing battle she concentrates her attacks on Amelia and Zelgadis. When Lina Inverse prepares to kill Zuuma with the Ragna Blade, Ozzel deliberately places herself in the blade's path and is struck through the chest, apparently dying. Because she is a doll, she survives the wound, and her survival is confirmed near the end of Slayers Revolution.

Her role continues into Slayers Evolution-R, where she primarily devotes herself to watching over the jar containing Rezo's soul, especially after Zuuma's death. She is intensely protective of the vessel and displays deep affection for the Red Priest himself. This devotion also takes a destructive form, as she reacts with blind rage toward other jars and smashes them on sight. Her attachment is single-minded and reflects a nature built around one purpose. When Rezo is finally revived, Ozzel greets him with reverence and then ceases to function, her life-force having been spent in fulfilling her purpose.

In terms of abilities, Ozzel's artificial body grants her resilience beyond that of an ordinary person, allowing her to survive injuries that would be fatal to a human. She is also capable in combat, as shown by her ability to engage skilled opponents such as Amelia and Zelgadis. Her defining trait, however, is not magical power but her unwavering commitment to guarding Rezo and the vessel that holds his soul. Her name is fitting in this regard, as the alternate form Ozer is simply the name Rezo spelled backward, reinforcing her identity as a being made to serve the Red Priest.
