Description
Philionel El Di Saillune, commonly called Prince Phil, is the crown prince of the kingdom of Saillune and a supporting character in the anime Slayers Revolution. Despite his royal standing, his appearance is rough and imposing; he has shaggy hair, a thick beard, and a large, stocky build that is often described as resembling a dwarf stretched to human size. People who meet him for the first time frequently mistake him for a bandit or a fraud rather than a prince, a contrast that is played for humor throughout the series.

His background is tied closely to the Saillune royal family. His father, King Eldoran, is still the nominal ruler but is old, sick, and bedridden, so Philionel effectively governs the kingdom in his place. Saillune is a white-magic city whose policies are oriented toward keeping peace in its region, and Philionel carries considerable responsibility for maintaining that stability. He has two brothers, Christopher Wil Brogg Saillune and Randionel Saillune, and a nephew named Alfred. He is also the father of two daughters: Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune, who travels with the protagonist Lina Inverse, and Gracia Ul Naga Saillune, better known as Naga the Serpent. Years before the events of Slayers Revolution, his wife was killed by an assassin, and the loss caused his elder daughter Gracia to leave the family and eventually become the wandering sorceress known to the wider world as Naga.

In terms of personality, Philionel is loud, warm-hearted, and deeply devoted to his family, especially Amelia, whose own passionate sense of justice mirrors his. He is a self-declared pacifist and claims to dislike fighting, yet he does not hesitate to use force whenever he witnesses something he considers unjust. This contradiction is central to his character: he genuinely values peace, but his faith in justice overrides his stated aversion to violence. He can be oblivious to how intimidating or strange he appears to others, and his enthusiasm sometimes places him at the center of comic situations, but his sincerity is never in doubt.

Philionel has a distinctive set of abilities. Unlike most members of the Saillune royal family, he possesses no magical powers at all. Instead, he relies on overwhelming physical strength, which is considerable even by the standards of the series; his bare-handed power is enough to destroy lesser demons and to fight effectively against monsters and armed enemies alike. His combat style consists of straightforward physical attacks given grand, peace-themed names that deliberately contrast with their destructive nature, such as Pacifist Crush, Kindness to All Creatures Kick, Benevolent Giant Swing, and Goodwill Towards Man Smash.

Within Slayers Revolution, Philionel appears as a supporting figure whose authority and strength become relevant when Lina and her companions pass through Saillune. He interacts with the group as a proud father, a political leader, and a capable fighter, and his presence helps connect the events of the story to the kingdom's internal affairs. His relationship with Amelia is especially meaningful: after his wife's death, he raised his youngest daughter to be strong and upright, and the anime presents his influence as the reason Amelia grew into the justice-driven young woman she is. In that sense, his role in the story is both parental and protective, and his development is shown mainly through his interactions with his daughter and his willingness to stand beside the protagonists when the situation demands it.
