Description
Hikari, designated as Sekirei Number 11, is one half of a twin pair, alongside her sister Hibiki, and serves as the Sekirei of the Ashikabi Seo Kaoru. Her name translates to "light," which fittingly corresponds to her control over electricity and lightning-based powers, complementing her sister's association with sound. In the series Sekirei: Pure Engagement, which continues the story of the deadly Sekirei Plan in the new capital of Tokyo, Hikari and her sister are established participants in the competition from its early stages. Physically, she is noted to be slightly taller and heavier than her sister, with a reported height of 166 centimeters and a weight of 58 kilograms.
In terms of personality, Hikari is characterized by a notably short temper and a more emotional disposition compared to her twin. She is often seen wearing violet or blue suits, and while Hibiki tends to act as the calm leader of the pair, Hikari is the more volatile one, known for her quickness to anger. This personality trait extends to her relationship with their Ashikabi, Seo. While she is fully aware that Seo is not a particularly impressive or powerful Ashikabi, earning the pair the reputation of serving a "Loser Ashikabi," Hikari and her sister genuinely care for him and are fiercely protective. This loyalty manifests in a possessive and jealous manner, as they aggressively refuse to allow Seo to wing or even flirt with any other Sekirei, often resorting to striking him with lightning as a deterrent.
Hikari's motivations in the Sekirei Plan are initially focused on the early stages of the competition. Along with her sister, she seeks out and battles unwinged Sekirei, aiming to force them into choosing an Ashikabi or to eliminate them from the game. Despite being considered underdogs, their combined expertise in combat is noted by the powerful Sekirei Homura, who acknowledges that the twin sisters have more fighting experience than he does. Her role in the story is primarily as a recurring supporting antagonist and a member of a secondary Ashikabi's harem, providing a contrasting dynamic to the protagonist's group.
The most defining aspect of Hikari's character is her inseparable bond with her sister, Hibiki. They function almost as a single unit, both in combat and in daily life, and their most powerful abilities are uniquely designed to be used together. Their combined Norito, or prayer of power, is "The thunderclap of our oath, destroy the disasters that befall our Ashikabi," which summons a massive and often indiscriminate lightning strike. They share a coordinated fighting style, with notable attacks including their joint Norito called Kaminari (God's Song) and another technique named Karitachi No Ikazuchi (Standing Needle Thunder). While Hikari herself has the individual ability to manipulate electricity, her true combat effectiveness relies on the synchronization with her twin, highlighting that their greatest strength is their unity and shared purpose. Throughout the narrative, their relationship with Seo remains largely static; they maintain their sarcastic yet devoted protection of him, balancing their roles as formidable fighters with the comedic undertones of their management of his behavior.
