Description
Kageroza Inaba holds the position of 7th Seat in the 12th Division of the Gotei 13 and serves as the Chief of Precipice World Studies within the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. His true nature is that of a Mod-Soul, created from the reishi of a single Shinigami named Oko Yushima, from whom he split alongside another being, Nozomi Kujo. Inaba inherited most of Yushima's memories and carries forward his creator's suppressed ambitions.

In his public role within the Seireitei, Inaba presents a polite and obedient demeanor, adhering to the orders of his superiors and wearing the standard white lab coat over a shihakusho, complemented by circular glasses and white gloves. However, when pursuing his own objectives, his appearance and personality shift dramatically. He dons a long, ornate yellow robe that covers the back of his head and carries a cane, a style that notably resembles that of his division's captain, Mayuri Kurotsuchi. In this private capacity, he reveals a ruthless and condescending nature, treating others like the Mod-Soul Kon with cruelty and striking Nozomi without hesitation. While he professes a profound respect for Captain Kurotsuchi, this admiration is overshadowed by a firm belief in his own superiority over his captain in all aspects. He also harbors a deep contempt for Central 46, the governing body that terminated the Mod-Soul project, accusing them of fearing his research.

Inaba's primary motivation is to revive and complete the research of the defunct Project Spearhead, an initiative designed to use Mod-Souls in the bodies of the dead to fight Hollows. When the project was ordered to be destroyed, its data was converted into special reishi and cast into the Dangai, the precarious dimension between the Human World and Soul Society. Inaba spent years infiltrating the Shinigami Research Institute, using his position as a cover to study the Dangai and devise a method to retrieve this lost information from the Kōtotsu, the cleaner that travels through that space. This quest becomes intertwined with his need to recapture Nozomi, as she holds the key to his ultimate goal.

In the narrative, Inaba serves as the main antagonist of the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc. His scheme involves creating an army of Reigai, which are artificial copies of Soul Reapers, to overthrow the Soul Society and eliminate the original captains and lieutenants. He successfully creates Reigai of nearly all the Gotei 13's officers, using samples of their reishi collected whenever they passed through a Senkaimon he had modified. His central plot is to capture Nozomi Kujo, who is revealed to be the other half of his original soul. By fusing with her, Inaba seeks to become whole again and access the full power and knowledge of their creator, Oko Yushima, thereby completing the forbidden Mod-Soul research.

His key relationships are defined by this origin. His connection to Nozomi is the most significant; she is at once his counterpart and his target. While he pursues her relentlessly and harms her, he also demonstrates a conflicted sense of care, pleading for her to move out of the way of a lethal attack and expressing relief when she survives, insisting that he knows what is best for her because they are essentially the same being. His relationship with Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi is one of a subordinate who holds his superior in professional esteem but regards his own abilities as greater. This is demonstrated when Mayuri ultimately outmaneuvers and incapacitates Inaba by swapping places with his own Reigai during their battle.

Throughout his development, Inaba remains a steadfast agent of his inherited will, showing little personal growth as he is driven entirely by the rage and ambition passed down from Oko Yushima. His defeat comes only after he successfully captures and fuses with Nozomi, leading to a final confrontation where the merged being is ultimately overwhelmed by Ichigo Kurosaki and the combined efforts of the Soul Reapers.

In terms of abilities, Inaba is a formidable combatant capable of fighting multiple captain-level opponents simultaneously. His primary power originates from his Zanpakutō, named Raiku, which he can release with the command "Become distorted". In its sealed state, it often takes the form of a cane. Raiku's special ability is the manipulation of space itself. By twirling the blade to the right, Inaba can "record" a specific space or event, such as an opponent's attack. By twirling it to the left, he can "replay" that recorded event as many times as he wishes, allowing him to deflect attacks or send them back at his enemies. This ability extends to recording and creating portals to the Dangai, which he uses to trap opponents. Inaba can also teleport by entering a space he has recorded and exiting from another point. He is highly proficient in Kidō and Shunpo, but his strategic mind and the unique power of his Zanpakutō make him a particularly dangerous adversary, forcing the Gotei 13 to rely on teamwork and ingenuity to overcome his spatial manipulation.
