Description
Lisa Yadomaru is a Visored and the current captain of the 8th Division in the Gotei 13. Originally serving as the lieutenant of the 8th Division under Captain Shunsui Kyoraku approximately 110 years before the main story, she was among the Soul Reapers sent to investigate the disappearance of shinigami in Seireitei. During that mission, she became a victim of Sosuke Aizen's hollowfication experiments, gaining Hollow powers against her will. To avoid execution, she and the other hollowfied shinigami fled to the human world, where they formed the Visored group and lived in hiding in Karakura Town.
Lisa's personality is calm, rational, and serious, and she is often described as one of the most level-headed members of the Visored. She can think clearly under pressure and maintains a stoic demeanor. Despite this outward reserve, she has a softer side; she enjoys reading josei manga and occasionally displays a playful, teasing nature similar to her former captain, Shunsui Kyoraku. She cares deeply about her comrades, as shown when she warns them of danger or steps in to assist in battle. Her core motivation is to master her Hollow powers and later to help defeat Aizen, whom she holds responsible for her exile. She also seeks to prove her growth to Kyoraku and to reclaim her place in Soul Society.
In the story, Lisa plays a key role during Ichigo Kurosaki's training to control his inner Hollow. She is the first Visored to spar with him while he is under Hollow influence, demonstrating her combat proficiency by defending herself against his attacks. Later, during the Fake Karakura Town arc, she joins the Visored in reinforcing the Gotei 13 against the Espada. She fights alongside Hiyori Sarugaki against the third Espada, Tier Harribel, using her Hollow mask in short bursts. After Aizen's defeat, she eventually returns to Soul Society and, following the Thousand-Year Blood War, ascends to the captaincy of the 8th Division.
Her key relationships include a close bond with Shunsui Kyoraku, with whom she shares mutual teasing and a history of trust. She also works well with her fellow Visored, especially Hiyori and Shinji Hirako, and shows loyalty to them even during tense combat. She is ambidextrous, a rare trait she shares with Kyoraku.
Lisa's notable abilities include exceptional swordsmanship, high-speed movement, and hand-to-hand combat. She is highly agile and uses a spinning kick technique known as the Panty-Flash Tornado to deliver multiple strikes. Its release command is "Smash." In its Shikai form, the blade lengthens into a large polearm resembling a monk's spade, with a bladed tip on one end and a heavy ball on the other. A named technique associated with the Shikai is Niju Ichijo Tonbokudari, a barrage of thrusts.
