TV-Series
Description
Morikawa Ganko is a young girl introduced early in Flame of Recca, her name translating to “stubborn.” She served as an agent of Kurei, under whom she guarded his mansion using the madōgu known as Kata Kugutsu, a mystical puppet-controlling weapon. Ganko’s power allows her to animate inanimate objects and manipulate them with nearly absolute precision, and she can generate energy threads to control living beings as well. Her primary puppet in the story is a mannequin made to resemble her deceased mother, which she treats as a surrogate parent; this emotional attachment made her vulnerable to Kurei’s manipulation. After being defeated by Fūko Kirisawa in battle, Ganko is taken in by Fūko and begins living with her, eventually forming a close bond with the main group. In the anime adaptation, she later accompanies the Hokage team to the Ura Butō Satsujin tournament, bringing along a doll named Kondo. Her motivations shift from serving Kurei out of a desire for a mother figure to seeking companionship and belonging with her new allies. Ganko’s development is seen as she transitions from a lonely, easily exploited child into a loyal and somewhat cheerful companion, though she remains physically small and young throughout the series. Her role in the story is primarily as a former antagonist turned supporting character, providing occasional assistance and emotional depth, especially in her relationship with Fūko.
