Description
Charlotte E. Yeager, often called Shirley by her friends, is a member of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing hailing from the United States of Liberion. She is sixteen years old with a tall and buxom appearance, standing at 167cm, with orange hair and blue eyes. Her birthday is February 13th, and she holds the rank of Flight Lieutenant.

Her personality is defined by a magnanimous and confident nature. She is a self-described thrill-seeker who is absolutely fascinated by speed, leading to a love for mechanics and a constant drive to tinker with her Striker Unit, which she has nicknamed Merlin. This passion is matched by an unusual fondness for cleanliness, a trait so strong that she had her personal bathtub transported all the way to the 501st’s base in Britannia when she transferred from the Liberion Army 363rd Fighter Wing. She is highly sociable and easygoing, possessing a reckless confidence and a willingness to take risks that can make her seem almost oblivious to the seriousness of the war around her. She appreciates the finer things in life, including the comfort of a bath and a sense of personal freedom, acting as a cheerful individualist who nonetheless plays her part well when it truly matters.

Her primary motivation is a singular, lifelong dream to break the sound barrier. Before her military service, she set numerous speed records, including a land speed record on a motorcycle across the salt flats of her home country. This goal drives her to constantly modify her equipment and push her magical abilities to their absolute limit. She is based on the real-life test pilot Chuck Yeager, sharing his historic achievement of being the first person to break the sound barrier, as well as his background as a mechanic. Her personal aircraft is an orange plane she named Glamorous Shirley, a direct reference to Yeager's own plane, the Glamorous Glennis.

In the story, Charlotte serves as a key combatant of the 501st, renowned for her incredible speed which allows her to easily outpace her comrades and effectively engage high-velocity Neuroi enemies that others cannot catch. Her role is often that of a reliable and powerful ace, using her straightforward and fearless approach to battle to smash through enemy lines.

She shares a particularly close relationship with Francesca Lucchini, which is portrayed almost like that of sisters, with Charlotte acting as a supportive older sister who tolerates and even welcomes Lucchini’s affectionate and playful nature. She also takes on a sisterly, mentoring role towards younger members like Yoshika Miyafuji and Lynette Bishop. In contrast, she has a notable rivalry with Gertrud Barkhorn, characterized by a mutual and open lack of affection for one another. Her carefree and boisterous attitude, especially when paired with Lucchini, often causes frustration for the more formal Perrine H. Clostermann.

Regarding her development, Charlotte is depicted as someone who has already achieved great fame as a test pilot and record-setter before joining the 501st, bringing a pre-established confidence and skill to the team. Her primary character arc revolves around the realization of her dream to break the sound barrier, which she famously accomplishes during a mission, demonstrating the peak of her personal ambition and ability. Despite her carefree exterior, she shows a depth of character through her responsible relationships with the younger witches and her objective, strategic thinking in combat situations.

Charlotte's notable abilities are centered on her magical power to enhance her speed, a skill that is significantly more developed than in most other witches. This allows her to perform high-speed flight and maneuvers that are essential for intercepting fast targets. When she deploys her magic, the physical manifestation of her familiar, which is a rabbit, appears in the form of rabbit ears and a tail. Her Striker Unit is based on the P-51D Mustang fighter aircraft. Her personal arsenal is varied and includes firearms based on real-world models such as the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, the Thompson M1A1 submachine gun, the Colt M1911 pistol, and she also carries a bladed weapon in the form of a Bowie knife.
