Description
Falco, also known as Fou Lafine, is a character who serves as a priest within the Machine Empire and holds the distinguished rank of one of the four legendary Spirit Generals, representing the southern direction. His past is marked by tragedy, having grown up in the war-ravaged region of Sodom where he was orphaned at a young age after his parents died in a bombing. This early loss forced him to become self-reliant and aloof. During his youth, his only friends were a girl named Lily and her brother, Quattro. Even as a child, Falco was a musical prodigy, skilled in playing the violin, organ, and harmonica. He would perform at a church solely in exchange for food and, during this time, developed a hatred for religion, which he saw as passive and ineffective in ending the war that had taken everything from him.
Following Lily's death, Falco and Quattro were taken in by soldiers of the Machine Empire and trained as warriors, unaware that the Machine Emperor himself had orchestrated the war that destroyed their hometown. Adopting the Emperor's mission as a path to "true peace," Falco eventually rose to become a Spirit General and the donor of the phoenix-like B't named Je t'aime. Despite holding the Machine Emperor in godlike regard, his loyalty began to waver after his fellow Spirit General Karen defected from the Empire. He demonstrated this conflict by voluntarily allowing her to escape, an act that resulted in his demotion from major to lieutenant.
Falco's personality is complex and somewhat contradictory. He is a religious man who often recites verses from the Bible and is deeply compassionate, running a church that serves as an orphanage where he takes in and cares for children who have lost their parents. This compassionate role stands in stark contrast to his duties as a powerful warrior for an empire of conquest. His motivations are rooted in his traumatic past; he genuinely believes in creating lasting peace, even if it means serving a tyrant, though his actions, such as helping Karen escape, hint at an internal moral compass he cannot ignore. His key relationships are central to his character. His bond with the late Lily is lasting, symbolized by a pendant she gave him which he always wears. His friendship with Quattro was forged in childhood, though their paths diverge. His complicated loyalty to the Machine Emperor and his sympathetic connection to the defector Karen are significant, as is his role as the B't partner of Je t'aime.
In terms of abilities, though not primarily a martial artist, Falco is a capable fighter with incredible agility and tactical skill. His unique weapon is the Funeral Bow, which serves as both his primary weapon and a violin bow. This weapon has the ability to discharge high-voltage electricity, which is powerful enough to completely disintegrate a human being. His most notable ability is the Fortune Symphonic, an amplified version of his B't Je t'aime's Deadly Carol attack. By playing a specific song on his violin, he can trigger the Fortune Symphonic, which allows him to connect with those who hear it on a psychological and emotional level.
