Description
Metal Face is a lieutenant of the Machine Empire in the anime B’t X. He serves as one of the early and recurring antagonists who persistently obstructs the protagonist Teppei Takamiya’s mission to rescue his brother. Metal Face holds the rank of lieutenant and is the donor of the B’t Madonna, a powerful mechanical creature designed after a griffin. He holds a deep contempt for the limitations of the human body, believing it to be weak and inferior. This conviction led him to willingly undergo cybernetic enhancements from the Machine Empire, transforming much of his body into machinery. As a cyborg, he possesses greatly increased strength and durability, making him a dangerous opponent in direct combat. His personality is characterized by cruelty and mercilessness; he shows no hesitation in eliminating his enemies and takes pleasure in asserting dominance. He is aggressive, assertive, and highly confrontational, often taking charge of situations and relying on brute force and intimidation to achieve his goals.
Metal Face plays a critical role early in the story when he attacks Teppei at the Machine Empire’s base, the Area. He defeats Teppei easily and throws him, bleeding, into a junkyard. That act inadvertently leads to the awakening of the legendary B’t X, as Teppei’s blood revives the dormant machine. From that point onward, Metal Face becomes a persistent threat, repeatedly clashing with Teppei and X. His motivations are tied to his loyalty to the Machine Empire and his belief in the superiority of mechanical strength over human weakness. He is driven by a desire to prove that his cyborg body and his B’t are superior.
His key relationships include his connection to Karen, a former ally who trained Teppei; Metal Face is described as an old friend of hers, suggesting a shared past that is not fully explored in the main narrative. As the donor of B’t Madonna, he operates in close partnership with that B’t, using it in battle. There is little evidence of significant personal development over the series; he remains a consistent and dedicated servant of the Empire, embodying the arrogance and cruelty of its military forces. His notable abilities stem from his cybernetic body, which grants him enhanced physical capabilities, and his command over the B’t Madonna, which he uses to attack and pursue his enemies.
