Description
Alphard Al Shua, originally known by the name Canaan, is a primary antagonist and a formidable adversary. Her background is rooted in a childhood of profound loss and manipulation. Orphaned after her parents were killed, she was taken in by a military officer named Siam, who trained orphaned girls to become elite assassins. Siam gave her the name Canaan, believing she would be a sign of a promised land. Under his tutelage, she saw him as a father figure and became a highly skilled operative capable of completing high-level missions from a young age without remorse. In a pivotal act of betrayal, she killed Siam during a mission on a train, an event witnessed by her fellow student, who would later inherit the name Canaan. Following this, she abandoned her original name and adopted Alphard Al Shua, becoming the de facto leader of a terrorist organization known as Snake.

Alphard typically presents a cold, emotionless, and calm demeanor, often wearing a faint smirk. She maintains a collected approach even during attacks and demonstrates no mercy in her actions, having killed her own mentor without hesitation. Her philosophy rejects emotion as an obstacle, claiming that hate makes a poor soldier and that love is pointless. However, this stoic exterior masks a deep internal turmoil. She is haunted by the ghost of Siam, whose memory she sees everywhere, and her mind constantly replays the events of his death. Her entire being is driven by the fear and guilt of killing him, and she seeks to extinguish this haunting presence by defeating the new Canaan, whom Siam had designated as a superhuman representing "despair".

Alphard’s primary motivation is to free herself from the curse of Siam’s memory. She believes that by breaking the new Canaan, making her lose all hope, and ultimately defeating her, she can finally escape the ghost of her former mentor. Her role in the story is as the central antagonist and the object of Canaan’s quest for revenge. She orchestrates elaborate, artistic criminal plans, often involving the Ua Virus and the Flower Garden project, but her true conflict is a deeply personal one with Canaan. Rather than simply killing her rival, Alphard seeks to torment her, pushing her to the brink of despair to prove that her own emotionless, hate-fueled path is superior.

Key relationships define her character. Her relationship with Canaan is one of a twisted rivalry; they are former comrades and sisters-in-arms, bound by the shared experience of being Siam’s students. Alphard’s fixation on Canaan stems from jealousy and a desire to overcome the legacy Siam left behind. She also has a significant relationship with her lieutenant, Liang Qi, who is obsessively in love with her, calling her "sister." Alphard, however, remains emotionally detached, viewing Liang Qi as a tool and showing no interest in her affections, even observing the love others feel as a mere curiosity.

Throughout the narrative, Alphard develops from a seemingly invincible and emotionless force into a figure revealed to be crippled by her own guilt. Her defeat comes not from being outmatched physically, but from a psychological epiphany. When Canaan comes to terms with Siam's death and unites her senses, she is able to defeat Alphard. In their final confrontation, Alphard slips from a train, and when Canaan tries to save her, she chooses to shoot her own arm, which Canaan is holding, until it severs, allowing her to fall to her apparent death. This act symbolizes her desperate attempt to sever the connection to Siam, whose serpent tattoo was on that arm. She survives the fall, and is later seen alive at an airport as a one-armed woman, still at large.

As an assassin, Alphard is described by Siam as being at the peak of human ability, though not superhuman. Her physical abilities far exceed those of a normal person, allowing her to fight on par with Canaan. She is a genius in tactics, psychology, economics, and hacking, designing artistic crime plans that are difficult to predict. In combat, she is a vicious and acrobatic hand-to-hand fighter, skilled at keeping enemies off-balance and ending fights quickly. She is typically armed with an FN Five-seveN USG 5.7mm pistol and a knife for close-quarters combat. Her left arm originally bore a serpent tattoo given to her by Siam, which she later amputates.
