Description
Aruka Schild is the older sister of Cruz Schild and a central figure whose true loyalties remain hidden for much of the story. She initially appears as a member of the Resistance opposing the Simeon Company's tyrannical rule over the Black Spot, serving as the second-in-command. However, this is a cover for her real role as a double agent. In truth, she is an undercover operative for Simeon, sent to retrieve a stolen data microchip containing vital information. Her genuine position is as a member of the Shintenou, the four most powerful generals who serve directly under Adam Arclight, the leader of Simeon.
In terms of personality, Aruka presents a carefully constructed facade. Early on, she seems to be a deeply kind and caring individual, fully aware of her own limitations as a Needless but still willing to fight and sacrifice herself for the Resistance and the safety of her younger brother. This image is shattered when her betrayal is revealed. As a member of the Shintenou, she displays a ruthless, proud, and uncaring nature, fiercely loyal to Adam Arclight and willing to kill without hesitation. She expresses contempt for Cruz, claiming to despise his perceived weakness and constant dependence on her. Yet, her actions are far more complex than her words suggest. Despite her declarations of hatred, she has on multiple occasions taken actions, or deliberately chosen inaction, that allow Cruz to survive, such as pretending not to recognize him in the Black Market and creating a hole in an inescapable ice wall to give him an escape route. Ultimately, her deepest motivation appears to be a profound, if deeply concealed, care for her brother, and her dying act is to defy Arclight and sacrifice herself to give Cruz a chance to live, finally acknowledging the potential she always knew he possessed.
Aruka's role in the story is that of a tragic antagonist and a source of profound shock for the protagonist, Cruz. She is the architect of the Resistance's disastrous failed ambush on Adam Arclight, having leaked their plans to Simeon. She is believed to have died protecting Cruz, only to reappear later as the final, unmasked member of Simeon's Elite Four. Her key relationships are defined by deception. Her bond with her brother, Cruz, is the most critical. She kept him in the dark about her true allegiance throughout their childhood and her time in the Resistance, even limiting her power to only ten percent around him to maintain her charade. This deception culminates in her nearly killing him to steal the pendant containing the data chip. Her relationship with Adam Arclight is one of loyalty, as she serves as one of his strongest generals, a position in which she takes great pride. Aruka undergoes a notable development from a seemingly loving sibling and Resistance fighter to a cold-blooded traitor, and finally to a figure of ambiguous redemption. While she commits terrible acts, including fatally wounding her own brother, her consistent, subtle interventions to preserve Cruz's life suggest an internal conflict. Her ultimate sacrifice against Arclight serves as a final, undeniable act of love and atonement.
Aruka Schild is a remarkably powerful Needless. She possesses a natural, high-level analytical ability similar to her brother's, allowing her to quickly deduce the strengths and weaknesses of her opponents in combat. She uses this insight to devastating effect, effortlessly countering and neutralizing the abilities of other skilled fighters. Her fragment, the source of her superhuman power, is called Agnis Schiwattas, or the Breath of Fire. While she initially pretends to have only a weak fire ability capable of producing a small flame, her true power is far greater. Agnis Schiwattas allows her to manipulate kinetic energy at a molecular level. By slowing down or speeding up the vibration of molecules, she can generate massive explosions and melt solid objects in seconds. This ability makes her the strongest of all fire-type Needless and places her in a unique category of power. She is revealed to be one of only twelve Needless who bear the Stigmata, a mark that signifies the most powerful beings of their kind.
