Description
Cait Sith Cheshire is a terrestrial Specter serving the god Hades, designated as the Terrestrial Bestial Star. Originating from the United Kingdom, he possesses a slight build, standing 157 centimeters tall and weighing 52 kilograms, with a birthday of June 7 and blood type B. His appearance is notable for his dark skin, short silver hair, and fully yellow, cat-like pupils.

In terms of personality, Cheshire is characterized by distinctly feline mannerisms that are depicted in a stereotypical manga and anime fashion. He is known to be somewhat timid, easily startled, and prone to complaining, yet also displays a childlike eagerness to receive praise, particularly from his mistress, Pandora. While he often acts in a relaxed or even mocking manner towards both enemies and allies when a situation seems advantageous, he is also shown to be attentive and capable of becoming serious when his duties require it, such as when he realized the true threat posed by the Gold Saint Asmita during the invasion of Jamir. His behavior is not that of a front-line warrior; rather, he functions in a supporting capacity, showing a strong sense of self-preservation and a keen intuition that allows him to sense danger.

Cheshire's primary motivation is his loyalty and service to Pandora, the commander of the Specters. He acts as her personal attendant, coachman, and confidant, and he is frequently seen at her side, driving her carriage or listening to her concerns. This relationship is the most significant in his story, as he remains devoted to her through the shifting tides of the Holy War. He has a friendly association with another Specter, Sylph Edward, though this does not define his role in the narrative. Despite being a servant of Hades, Cheshire does not exhibit a deep personal conviction for the god’s goal of painting the Lost Canvas, and his loyalties are ultimately more personal than ideological.

Throughout the story of The Lost Canvas, Cheshire’s role is rarely that of a combatant. He first appears guiding a group of Specters during the invasion of Jamir, where he observes and directs others but ultimately retreats to survive after the Virgin Saint Asmita seals the souls of his comrades. He later serves as Pandora’s coachman, transporting her to key locations such as the sealed earth where Alone confronts Athena and the temple of Saturn. As the war progresses and Alone begins to act independently of Hades's will, Cheshire remains aligned with Pandora. A pivotal moment in his development occurs when he is taken to Athena's side after the death of the judge Rhadamanthys. There, he witnesses the goddess's power as she restores the petrified Saints and soldiers to life, an intervention that moves him. This experience leads to his defection from Hades's army, and he joins the Saints of Athena in the final battle against Alone. Remarkably, he is the only Specter confirmed to survive the 18th-century Holy War.

Following Hades's defeat, Cheshire appears no longer as a Specter but continues as a loyal servant to Pandora. His final appearance shows him escorting her to the Heinstein Castle in Germany, where they entomb the sealed gods Hypnos and Thanatos, suggesting a quiet life after the war.

Despite his non-combative nature, Cheshire possesses several notable abilities. He is described as having an exceptionally refined sixth sense, granting him a unique and powerful intuition that helps him perceive danger around him. His physical attributes resemble those of a cat, granting him great agility, remarkable balance, and the ability to leap long distances and land on his feet. According to DVD and Blu-ray extras for the series, Cheshire's two named techniques are Hide and Seek, which allows him to turn his body invisible, leaving only his eyes and mouth visible in a manner reminiscent of his literary namesake; and Perky Party, which conjures several colorful cats to assist him in combat. The name Cait Sith is derived from the Cait Sidhe, a fairy creature from Celtic mythology that takes the form of a large black cat with a white chest spot, while his individual name, Cheshire, is a direct reference to the Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, known for its mischievous grin and ability to disappear.
