Description
Icelos, also known as Vision Icelus, is a character in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas who serves as one of the four subordinate gods of the dream realm under the command of Hypnos, the God of Sleep. His domain appears to be that of nightmares, and in Greek mythology, Icelos is a figure associated with the creation of frightening and realistic dreams that take on animal forms.

In terms of appearance, Icelos is distinguished by his bestial and monstrous look. He has a hunched posture and his physical features include extremely long fangs and clawed hands, giving him the resemblance of a creature such as a vampire or a werewolf. This savage appearance is further reinforced by his surplice, which takes on a demonic shape that complements his ferocious nature. His entire visual design is meant to reflect his role as a god who terrifies mortals in their sleep.

Icelos has an aggressive, violent, and brutal personality. He is described as the most savage of the Dream Gods and takes great pleasure in tormenting his opponents, such as when he expresses a desire to hear the screams of his enemies as he inflicts wounds upon them. Like many gods in the Saint Seiya universe, he possesses an arrogant and self-absorbed character. This arrogance ultimately proves to be a fatal flaw, as his overconfidence leads him to underestimate his human opponents.

The primary motivation for Icelos in the story is to serve the will of Hypnos. He and his brothers are tasked with capturing the soul of Sagittarius Sisyphus. Sisyphus possesses vital information about the Dream Gods and their master, information that could potentially threaten the plans of Hades and his divine lieutenants. By sealing Sisyphus's soul in the dream world, the gods aim to prevent him from ever awakening or reincarnating.

In the narrative, Icelos first appears in the Sagittarius Temple at Sanctuary, where Athena and Capricorn El Cid watch over Sisyphus's comatose body. Emerging from a spatial distortion, Icelos bites Sisyphus and tears his soul away before the Gold Saint can properly react. This event serves as the catalyst for El Cid to leave Sanctuary alone on a mission to rescue his friend. Icelos later confronts El Cid directly. During their first encounter, Icelos uses his power to distort space, deflecting El Cid's attacks back at him. In a particularly brutal moment, after El Cid unleashes several sword strikes, Icelos warps the attacks so that one of them severs the Gold Saint's own right arm. After being cornered, Icelos and his brothers drag the soul of the young Pegasus Tenma into the dream world.

The most significant relationship Icelos has is with Capricorn El Cid. They are direct antagonists, and their conflict forms a major part of the Dream God arc. Icelos severely wounds El Cid and is confident in his superiority. Their second confrontation occurs in Yumekai, the dream world. Although Icelos initially holds the advantage due to his space-distorting abilities, El Cid manages to analyze the nature of his power. Icelos is ultimately defeated when El Cid uses his own blood to trace and find the warps in space, allowing him to land a fatal blow. Icelos meets his end when he is decapitated by the Excalibur technique. Before his final defeat, he also attempts to merge with his fellow Dream Gods to oppose El Cid and Tenma, but this proves insufficient to stop the Gold Saint.

The notable abilities of Icelos revolve around the manipulation of space. He has the power to distort space around himself. This allows him to teleport at will, appearing and disappearing from any location, as seen when he infiltrated the Sanctuary. More dangerously, he can use these warps to redirect attacks, essentially sending an opponent's assault back upon themselves or deflecting it to another location. This ability allows him to cut not only physical matter but space itself. He used this power to sever El Cid's arm using the Saint's own sword technique. Icelos also possesses immense physical strength, enough to send a Gold Saint flying through the air with a single blow. Like all Dream Gods, he can travel between the human world and the dream world, where he holds absolute dominance over his domain.
