Description
Osamu Miyahara is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Midori Days. He is a seventeen-year-old high school student at Sakuradamon High School and an underclassman of Seiji Sawamura. In appearance, he has shoulder-length black hair, dark gray eyes, and is almost always seen wearing his school uniform.
Osamu's background is tied closely to Seiji's school life. As Seiji's junior, he admires Seiji greatly, holding a strong and deep respect for his fighting ability and regarding him almost as an idol. This admiration shapes much of his behavior; he frequently follows Seiji around and wants to be recognized as a close companion.
In personality, Osamu is cheerful, outgoing, and openly comedic. He does not care much about what other people think of him, and he enjoys teasing his friends, especially Seiji. He shares Seiji's enthusiasm for the actor Sho Aikawa and for the fictional adult actress Miruku Moriyama. His defining flaw is his habit of speaking before he thinks; he is portrayed as somewhat dimwitted and regularly lands himself in unpleasant mishaps because of careless remarks. Despite this, he is loyal and good-natured at heart, always ready to help Seiji when problems arise.
His motivations center on loyalty and friendship. He wants to remain close to Seiji and be useful to him, and he takes part in Seiji's daily troubles with enthusiasm, even when his own interference creates additional problems. In the story, his role is primarily that of a friend and sidekick. He provides much of the comic relief, and his reactions to Seiji's unusual situation add a lighthearted counterpoint to the main events. At the same time, he occasionally acts as a source of advice, offering his own clumsy but sincere views on Seiji's romantic life when Seiji is confused.
In terms of key relationships, his bond with Seiji is the most important. He respects Seiji as a senior and idol, and he often partners with him in day-to-day activities. His relationship with Midori is friendly as well; because Midori spends her time close to Seiji, Osamu interacts with her regularly and accepts her as part of Seiji's world. Over the course of the story, Osamu does not undergo a major transformation, but his loyalty becomes more evident in moments of difficulty, showing that his comic behavior masks a dependable friend.
Osamu has no special fighting or supernatural abilities. His role is defined by his personality rather than any particular skill; his notable traits are his talkativeness, his enthusiasm, and his tendency to cause or stumble into trouble. Within the story, his practical function is to serve as a supportive companion whose presence keeps Seiji connected to ordinary school life.
