Description
Fleur Boland, often referred to as Eve, is a traveling merchant who primarily operates in the port town of Lenos during her appearance in Spice and Wolf II. Her full name is Fleur von Eiterzental Mariel Boland, indicating a noble lineage that she no longer claims. She is a young woman, likely in her early twenties, with short blonde hair and blue eyes, standing about the same height as the merchant Kraft Lawrence. While conducting business, she is almost always completely covered by a heavy cloak and a turban, a practical disguise that conceals her identity and gender, making her hard to approach. When she is not wearing these heavy layers, she is known to possess an extreme and striking beauty, capable of perfectly portraying a naive town girl.

Eve is a solitary and deeply guarded individual, shaped by a traumatic past. She is a fallen noble originally from the Kingdom of Winfield who, after her family's downfall, was sold into slavery to another merchant. This experience left her wary of nearly everyone, and as a result, she trusts only in profit and her own cunning. Her personality is shrouded in mystery, though she can be talkative under the right circumstances and possesses a keen eye for both people and business opportunities. Her primary motivation is absolute self-reliance and the pursuit of power to ensure she is never vulnerable again. She aims to become the prince merchant, an elite position that stands above all other merchants and trade companies, one that allows her to negotiate directly with nobility and set deals between nations, reporting only to the king himself. She seeks to live her life entirely by her own limits and means, a direct consequence of the complete loss of control she suffered in her youth.

In the story of Spice and Wolf II, Eve initially appears as a business partner to Lawrence, involving him in a seemingly lucrative yet secretive fur smuggling deal. However, she ultimately betrays him, knocking him unconscious and fleeing with his share of the profits. Her role is that of a cunning antagonist and a foil to Lawrence, representing a path of ruthless, solitary commerce that contrasts with his more cooperative nature. Her journey continues when she becomes entangled in a conflict known as the Narwhal mess in the town of Kerube. Her plan in this scheme fails, leaving her nearly killed by a man named Kieman. Lawrence saves her life, creating a complex dynamic between them. In gratitude, she later provides Lawrence with crucial information about the wolf bones he is searching for and reveals her true noble name. She also gives him a kiss, an act that provokes a strong reaction of jealousy from Holo, highlighting the tense and wary relationship she has with the wolf deity.

Despite her antagonistic actions, Eve is not a simple villain but a deeply developed character defined by her past trauma. Her development is shown through her continuous, desperate struggle for independence, even as her methods prove self-destructive. Her abilities as a merchant are notable; she is extremely skilled, having organized secret smuggling operations with the church, and she is shown to be resourceful and adaptable even when her plans collapse. She is both a dangerous rival and a pitiable figure, a merchant who has hardened herself to survive in a world that once broke her.
