Description
Makoto Isshiki is Yuuta Togashi's classmate and first high school friend. He sports tanned skin, blue eyes, and initially short black hair. After being caught conducting an unauthorized poll ranking female classmates by cuteness, he willingly shaves his head completely as self-imposed punishment. He typically wears his high school uniform: a long black jacket with white accents, a red and white tie, and black pants.
His personality blends friendliness and loyalty with overt perversion, frequently creating detailed profiles of female classmates. He joins the Light Music Club primarily to attract female attention, buying a red electric guitar despite lacking skill. His behavior shifts significantly upon developing romantic feelings for Kumin Tsuyuri, sparked when she pats his head after the shaving incident. He becomes earnestly devoted to her, though his affections remain largely unreciprocated. He actively supports Yuuta, encouraging him to confess to Rikka Takanashi.
A genetic predisposition to baldness, inherited from his father who lost his hair at thirty-five, influences his perspective on appearance. He disliked his junior high baseball crew cut, believing it made him look childish. The high school head-shaving stems directly from his misguided ranking attempt.
His narrative involvement shifts across the series. He actively participates in club activities and supports Yuuta's romance during the first season. By the second season, his role diminishes to that of a comedic side character with reduced interaction, including with Kumin. Yuuta occasionally ignores him or pretends not to know him. This dynamic persists in the film "Take on Me," where Yuuta brushes him off. In the second season's finale, a minor character named Chihiro expresses romantic interest in him, a subplot left unresolved. His relationships include a largely superficial bond with Rikka Takanashi and an underdeveloped connection with Sanae Dekomori. His primary narrative functions revolve around his unrequited feelings for Kumin and his fading friendship with Yuuta.
