TV-Series
Description
Miyuki Goto is the mother of Yuu Gotou and a supporting character in the series. At thirty-eight years old, she works as a housewife and initially appears as a strict and demanding parent, placing heavy emphasis on Yuu's academic performance. She enrolls him in cram school and pressures him to pass an entrance exam for a Tokyo junior high school, believing that a prestigious education is essential for his future. As a result, she strongly disapproves of Yuu spending time with his friends, particularly Haruka Kaminogi, whom she views as a bad influence and a distraction from his studies.

Miyuki's motivations are rooted in personal tragedy. Later in the story, it is revealed that her younger sister was exceptionally accomplished in every endeavor before her untimely death. Miyuki projects her unresolved grief and the desire to see her sister's success replicated onto Yuu, pushing him to achieve the same level of excellence. This backstory explains the intense pressure she places on him and the emotional weight behind her seemingly overbearing behavior.

Despite her stern exterior, Miyuki cares deeply for her son. Her rigid expectations stem from love and fear for his future rather than malice. As the narrative progresses, she undergoes development through a confrontation with the emotional scars of her past. In the episode Beyond Time, her distress over these buried memories causes a disruption in the time-space continuum, demonstrating that her emotional state carries significant weight even though she possesses no supernatural abilities herself. This incident forces both her and Yuu to confront their strained relationship.

Miyuki's key relationship is with Yuu. Their dynamic evolves from one of conflict, with Yuu feeling suffocated and rebelling, to a more understanding bond after the truth of her sister is brought to light. She also interacts with Haruka indirectly, never fully approving of the friendship but eventually softening as the crisis unfolds. While Miyuki is a secondary character in the overarching science‑fiction plot, her role as a catalyst for Yuu's personal growth and the emotional grounding of his family life is crucial to his character arc.
