Description
Andre is a professional Turbo Duelist and the ace player of Team Unicorn, a team that won the prestigious Atlantis Tournament before entering the World Racing Grand Prix. He is a young man with tan skin, gold eyes, and somewhat desaturated red hair cut short with a distinctive spike in the front that resembles a unicorn horn, a symbol of his team. He typically wears a blue riding suit with gray and orange accents, dark gray shoulder pads and knee pads, and gray and white boots, with a small unicorn emblem on the right side of his chest.
Before joining Team Unicorn, Andre had a habit of losing duels on purpose. When he defeated an opponent, he could not bear to watch the loser get upset, so he would intentionally throw the match. This caught the attention of Jean, who would later become his team captain. Jean recognized this trait in Andre because he shared it himself, and approached Andre with a proposition. Jean suggested that if they dueled as a team, they would be motivated to win so as not to disappoint their teammates, fighting for the group rather than for themselves. Andre accepted this offer, and together with Jean and a third member named Breo, they formed a highly successful team. Andre proved to be such a powerful force in tournaments that for a significant stretch, neither of his teammates had to duel at all.
In personality, Andre is generally confident, steady, and charming. He uses his demeanor to his advantage, getting into his opponents' heads during matches. He is not a sore loser and, following his team's loss to the main protagonists, genuinely shook the opposing leader's hand in a show of respect. His Spanish origins are subtly hinted at through his mannerisms. Initially, his gentle nature made him indifferent to winning or losing, but after meeting Jean and embracing a team-oriented philosophy, he made the team's victory his primary goal. This shift in mindset transformed him into a fierce competitor.
Andre plays a Beast-type deck, and his strategic flexibility is his greatest asset. He is described as a genius duelist who does not rely on a set strategy. Instead, he analyzes his opponent's tactics in real-time and adjusts his own approach by making the best possible use of whatever cards are in his hand. He is known as a player who can use his intuition to determine the optimal play from limited information. This ability earned him a reputation for being able to turn a game around even when in a difficult position. His signature ace monster is the Synchro Monster Thunder Unicorn, a Beast-type creature with the power to reduce an opponent's monster's attack points.
In the World Racing Grand Prix, Team Unicorn faced off against the main characters' team. Andre was the starting runner for his team. Having studied his opponents, Jean devised a plan that involved deception. During a practice session, Andre intentionally used a fast-paced, power-oriented deck. This created a strong impression on the opposing team, leading them to believe that was his standard strategy. When the actual tournament match began, Andre completely changed his approach, switching to a deck designed to counter opponent attacks. This bait-and-switch worked flawlessly. He first defeated his opponent by exploiting the expectation of a power struggle, then overwhelmed the second opponent with a combination of damage-dealing effects and strategic plays. He was only finally defeated by the team's leader after a hard-fought duel. Unfortunately for Team Unicorn, their next tournament match ended in disaster when Andre and his captain crashed during the race, resulting in an automatic loss due to injury. Despite this setback, Andre and his teammates were later seen among the crowds cheering for the protagonists in their final battle, showing that their respect for strong competition endured.
Andre's notable abilities include his mastery of several distinct strategic variations. One style, called Fast Power, focuses on quickly swarming the field with powerful Beast monsters to overwhelm an opponent. Another style, built around his Unicorn cards, focuses on removing cards from play to activate powerful trap effects, such as negating attacks and reflecting damage back at the attacker. His talent for switching between these radically different approaches and for constructing the perfect response to an opponent's moves on the fly made him one of the most formidable Turbo Duelists in the competition.
