Description
Hunter Pace, known as Mukuro Enjo in the original Japanese version, is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. He is a professional Turbo Duelist with a flamboyant and aggressive personality, who dresses in biker gear and adopts a hunting-themed attitude during his matches. In the English dub, his character is further distinguished by a Texan accent.

Pace was once the Duel Monsters world champion, having defeated a long list of opponents before losing his title to Jack Atlas, the King of New Domino City. This loss became the defining event of his career, and his primary motivation is a burning desire to overthrow Jack and reclaim his former glory. He attempted to win back the title in at least two official matches against Atlas. In their second encounter, Pace managed to reduce Jack's Life Points to 1000 on his first turn, only to have Jack mock his strategy as mere luck and stage a dramatic comeback victory.

Following these defeats, Pace became desperate for another chance to face Jack. When the Fortune Cup tournament was announced, he saw an opportunity. He broke into the stadium, knocked out and mugged a participant named Shira, and stole his uniform to disguise himself and enter the tournament under a false identity. His gamble succeeded, and he was matched against Yusei Fudo, the protagonist who had secretly already defeated Jack. During the duel, Pace quickly revealed his true identity. Although he lost to Yusei, he showed an unexpected side of his character: he was genuinely happy with the result, considering it the best and most satisfying duel he had ever experienced.

Pace is a former champion whose pride was wounded by his repeated losses to Jack Atlas. This led him to evolve from a straightforward challenger into a schemer willing to use underhanded tactics, such as disguising himself, to get another shot at the top. Despite this, his reaction after dueling Yusei suggests that his core love for the duel itself was never entirely extinguished, even in defeat.

His primary and most significant relationship is his rivalry with Jack Atlas, who serves as the insurmountable wall he cannot overcome. He also shares a key relationship with Yusei Fudo, who becomes his unexpected opponent in the Fortune Cup and gives him the thrilling duel he had been seeking. A screen in the future, belonging to the antagonist Z-one, lists Hunter Pace, Yusei, and Akiza Izinski as teammates who together won the Pegasus J. Crawford Cup Trinidad Riding Duel Grand Prix, suggesting a potential for future cooperation that is not explored directly in the main series. An alternate universe version of Pace also makes a brief appearance in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V as a Common in a forced labor facility.

As a duelist, Hunter Pace is known for playing a Burning Skull Deck, which focuses on the combination of Burning Skull Head and Skull Flame monsters. His signature ace monsters are Skull Flame and the more powerful Speed King Skull Flame (known as Supersonic Skull Flame). In the Fortune Cup, he used a specialized Speed Accel Deck. This strategy centered on rapidly accumulating Speed Counters using cards like Acceleration Zone and then using them to activate powerful Speed Spells, giving him a perceived advantage in the Turbo Duel environment.
