TV-Series
Description
Carly Carmine is an aspiring news reporter known for her persistent and earnest nature. She is introduced as a somewhat clumsy and unlucky individual who dreams of achieving professional success. Despite a tendency to be pushed around by others and a string of misfortunes, she possesses a determined spirit and works diligently to uncover the truth behind the strange events occurring in New Domino City. She is characterized by her enthusiastic, happy-go-lucky attitude, although this is often accompanied by a streak of bad luck that seems to follow her efforts.
Her primary motivation stems from her career as a journalist and a deep personal devotion to the former King of Turmoil, Jack Atlas. Initially, she is his self-proclaimed number one fan, but her feelings quickly deepen into genuine love and admiration. This admiration compels her to help Jack during a low point in his life, leading to a period where the two live together. However, her desire to get closer to Jack and understand the threat of the Dark Signers ultimately leads her to investigate the mysterious Arcadia Movement, a decision that results in her death at the hands of its leader, Sayer.
Her death marks a pivotal transformation in her role within the story. Revived by the dark power of the Hummingbird mark, she becomes a Dark Signer, a servant of the Earthbound Immortals seeking to destroy the Signers. As a Dark Signer, her personality becomes darker, more arrogant, and driven by a twisted belief in fate, desiring to be with Jack for eternity even if it means destroying the world. In this state, she pilots the Earthbound Immortal Aslla Piscu and challenges Jack to a Shadow Turbo Duel. It is during this duel that Jack manages to break through her dark persona, and she ultimately sacrifices herself to save him, professing her love as she dissolves. Following the defeat of the Dark Signers ultimate leader, she is revived but has no memory of her time as a Dark Signer.
Her key relationships are centered around Jack Atlas, for whom she is the only character explicitly confirmed as his romantic interest. Her close bond with Jack draws envy from other female characters such as Mina and the waitress Stephanie. She also has a competitive and tense relationship with her rival journalist, Angela Raines. While her role becomes less prominent in later story arcs, where she is often depicted as part of a comedic relief trio supporting Jack, the emotional core of her character remains her connection to him.
In terms of abilities, Carly is a capable Duelist. In her normal state, she uses a Fortune Fairy deck, which relies on luck and prediction-themed cards. Following her rebirth as a Dark Signer, her deck evolves into the more powerful Fortune Lady archetype, featuring monsters that grow stronger as their levels increase, often in synergy with the Field Spell Future Vision. As a Dark Signer, she also gains the ability to pilot a Duel Runner and demonstrates formidable skill in Turbo Duels.
