Description
Nagumo Haruya, also known by his alien identity Burn, is a prominent character introduced during the second part of the Inazuma Eleven storyline. He is easily recognized by his fiery red hair styled into several pointed spikes that resemble flames or a tulip flower, combined with his sharp amber-colored eyes. As a member of the Aliea Academy, he has two distinct lines running vertically down his cheeks when he assumes his Burn persona, a marking that disappears when he returns to his everyday life. His typical casual outfit consists of a black and white short-sleeved jacket paired with green pants.
In terms of personality, Nagumo is defined by his rebellious and arrogant nature. He possesses a fierce determination to prove himself as the strongest and has a deep-seated jealousy toward those he considers rivals, most notably Hiroto Kiyama, also known as Gran. This jealousy is a primary driver for his actions, as he cannot stand being placed below someone else. His temperament is extremely volatile and aggressive, a volcanic nature that stands in stark contrast to the cool and composed demeanor of his counterpart, Suzuno Fuusuke, also known as Gazel. He is outspoken, dislikes taking orders from anyone, especially authority figures like Gran, and never shies away from a direct challenge.
Nagumo's role in the story begins when the Raimon team arrives in Okinawa searching for the rumored Fire Striker, whom they initially believe to be their former teammate Gouenji Shuuya. Nagumo confronts the team, falsely claiming to be this striker and demonstrating his incredible power by easily breaking through Endou Mamoru's technique, Majin The Hand. His true identity as the captain of the Aliea Academy team Prominence is revealed by Hiroto, which sets the stage for his rivalry. When he learns that Hiroto's team has been promoted to the top team, Genesis, Nagumo is enraged. In a direct act of defiance to prove his own strength, he forms an alliance with his rival, Gazel, merging their teams to create the powerful combined team, Chaos. Their goal is to overthrow Genesis and show their leader who is truly the strongest. Following the Aliea Academy incident, he reappears in the third part of the story as a player for the South Korean national team, Fire Dragon, having been scouted there to compete in the Football Frontier International tournament.
Nagumo's key relationships are driven by intense rivalry and mutual respect. His most significant dynamic is with Hiroto, whom he openly hates and is desperate to surpass. This feeling of inferiority is what drives him to create Chaos. Another pivotal relationship is with Gazel. While they are rivals who command opposing Fire and Ice teams, they share a common goal that allows them to put aside their differences and work together effectively, even developing a powerful combination technique. His relationship with other former Aliea Academy players, such as Midorikawa, also evolves over time as they find themselves on the same side representing their nation.
Throughout his appearances, Nagumo shows a degree of development, primarily channeling his raw ambition and envy into more focused goals. Although he begins as an antagonist, his skills and drive are undeniable, leading him to be recruited for the national stage. He learns to cooperate with other strong players, including his former rivals, to achieve victory for a national team, showcasing an ability to function within a structured group even if his pride remains intact. Even in later alternative timelines, such as in Inazuma Eleven Ares, his role as a talented forward for Eisei Gakuen demonstrates his persistent status as a formidable player.
Nagumo is a pure forward and a devastating striker whose abilities are centered on his Fire element. His signature individual technique is Atomic Flare, a powerful shot that draws on immense firepower to break through nearly any goalkeeper. When paired with his rival Gazel, they can unleash the combination technique Fire Blizzard, a powerful ice and fire shot that overpowers defenses. Later, as a member of Fire Dragon, he also uses a three-person combination technique called Chaos Break alongside Aphrodi and Gazel. His playing style is described as rough, powerful, and aggressive, making him a constant offensive threat who attacks without hesitation.
