TV-Series
Description
Sōsuke Zaizen, sometimes romanized as Zaizen Sousuke, is a recurring supporting character in the anime Inazuma Eleven. He is the Prime Minister of Japan in the series and is introduced during the second season, the arc dealing with the invasion by Aliea Gakuen. As the head of the national government, he carries himself with the composure expected of a statesman, but he is also a devoted football fan, a detail that connects him closely to the main events of the story.
In terms of background, Zaizen is the father of Touko Zaizen, a player who becomes involved with the Raimon Eleven during the fight against Aliea Gakuen. He has his own dedicated security unit, the SP Fixers, a bodyguard team made up mostly of adults who wear suits and pin microphones and who specialize in defensive techniques centered on protection. His personal appearance is distinctive, with dark hair, long bangs swept to one side, and visible white strands in his hair. Because of his office, he is almost always seen in formal attire.
His personality is defined by a strong sense of duty and an equally strong protective instinct, especially where his daughter is concerned. He is shown to be very protective of Touko and is reluctant to let her join the Inazuma Caravan to confront Aliea Gakuen, fearing for her safety. At the same time, he is an avid football enthusiast who has his own team and who is frequently seen watching matches on television. His love of football is significant enough that it is one of the reasons Aliea Gakuen chooses to wage its assault through the sport.
His motivations center on preserving the safety and stability of Japan, shielding his family from danger, and resisting the pressure placed on him by Aliea Gakuen. He is kidnapped by Aliea Gakuen during a ceremony at Nara Shika Park, held jointly with the American president to commemorate the completion of a giant deer statue. While in captivity, the founder of Aliea Gakuen, Kira Seijirou, pressures him regarding the Hi Soldier Plan, but Zaizen refuses to give in to the threat. After he is freed following the match between Raimon Eleven and Gemini Storm, he entrusts the Raimon Eleven with the task of stopping the plan, placing his confidence in the younger generation rather than relying solely on political or military measures.
His key relationships include his daughter Touko, whom he cares for deeply and tries to keep out of harm's way; his loyal bodyguard team, the SP Fixers, which protects him throughout the conflict; Kira Seijirou, who serves as an adversary applying political and psychological pressure on him; and the Raimon Eleven, who become the bearers of the mission he passes on. In the third season, he appears again in a supporting capacity, delivering the opening declaration for the FFI Asian preliminaries and cheering on Inazuma Japan as the national team competes on the international stage.
His development across the series follows a path from cautious protector to trusting supporter. He begins as a target of the alien threat and a father reluctant to involve his daughter in danger, but he gradually comes to respect the resolve of the young players and backs their efforts in both the domestic crisis and the world tournament. Although he is not a football player himself, his notable traits are his political authority, his unwavering resistance to intimidation, and the elite SP Fixers unit, whose protection-oriented skills make them highly effective guards. He also uses his position to support the sport publicly, lending official weight to the tournaments and national team appearances.
