Description
Joseph King, known in Japan as Koujirou Genda, is the goalkeeper for Teikoku Academy, later playing for Shin Teikoku and Neo Japan. He is a tall player with spiky brown hair swept to one side, distinguished by unique orange markings beneath his eyes. During his time with Shin Teikoku, his hair grows longer, resembling a lion's mane, and he gains a scar-like mark over his right eye. His nickname, the King of Goalkeepers, reflects his exceptional reputation and skill in the position.

King possesses a calm and confident demeanor, though his status as the nation's top goalkeeper can make him seem arrogant. Despite this surface-level pride, he is a determined individual with a strong moral compass. When the manipulative tactics of his coach, Ray Dark, are revealed, King is among the players who bravely turns against him. However, his intense desire to improve and his difficulty in accepting defeat make him susceptible to darker influences, leading him to temporarily join the reformed Shin Teikoku under Dark's questionable guidance.

In the first season of the story, King debuts as the formidable goalkeeper for Teikoku Academy, where his primary relationship is with the team's captain, Kidou Yuuto. He uses his signature technique, Power Shield, to block most shots until Raimon's forward, Axel Blaze, counters by shooting from close range. After Teikoku suffers a crushing loss to Zeus, King is hospitalized due to the severity of the defeat. His desire to overcome this humiliation drives him to join Shin Teikoku in the second season. Here, in his quest for greater power, he uses a dangerous forbidden technique called Beast Fang, which causes him significant harm. This period strains his relationship with Kidou, but after being freed from Ray Dark's influence and reconciling his mistakes, he repairs his friendship with Kidou and his teammate David Samford. The three later work together to help Raimon train for greater challenges.

By the third season, King has fully recovered and matures into a more focused player. He is recruited to play for Neo Japan, a team assembled specifically to challenge Inazuma Japan for a spot in the international tournament. In this role, he demonstrates his growth by mastering new techniques like Drill Smasher and collaborating with other goalkeepers to use the co-operative move Infinite Wall. King is a reliable and powerful presence in the goal, known for having no blind spots. His abilities are considered among the best in the country, and his special moves are primarily defensive in nature, evolving from the Power Shield and Full Power Shield to the more aggressive and risky Beast Fang, and later to the powerful Drill Smasher. His career is marked by a journey from arrogant champion to a humbled, resilient player who consistently overcomes physical injury to reclaim his status as a guardian of the goal.
