TV-Series
Description
Erika is the princess of the Land of Magic, a world where the invention of magical items is a common duty. She is the exact double of the human protagonist, Himeko Nonohara, from the Earth. Her creation is a magical ribbon, which she designed to allow the wearer to transform into any other living person for a limited time. She travels to Earth on a flying broom named Chappy to seek out her human lookalike and bestows this ribbon upon Himeko as part of a crucial test: for one year, she must observe how Himeko uses the item to determine its usefulness. The success of this experiment is directly tied to Erika's future, as it is a requirement for her to prove herself worthy of inheriting the crown and becoming the ruler of her kingdom.

Erika is characterized by her polite, gentle, and kind demeanor. She introduces herself to a startled Himeko with courtesy, even when met with a rough reception. Despite her status as a princess, she is not haughty; instead, she can be somewhat anxious, particularly about the fate of her magical experiment and Himeko's wellbeing. Her personality contrasts with the more boisterous and tomboyish nature of her Earthly counterpart. Erika is also responsible and caring, as seen when she worries about the consequences of Himeko's reckless use of the ribbon, such as when she nearly becomes stuck in a transformation.

Erika's primary motivation is to pass her royal examination, which requires the successful testing of her invented magical item on her human double. However, her role in the story goes beyond that of a detached observer. She is the catalyst for the entire plot, as her arrival on Earth and the gift of the ribbon set all events in motion. While she is not the main character who lives through the daily adventures, she appears at key moments to offer guidance, send messages, or intervene when the magic malfunctions. For instance, when Himeko accidentally damages the ribbon, Erika sends a magical letter to reassure her that it will repair itself. Her presence serves as a link between the ordinary world of the story and the magical realm.

Erika's most significant relationship is with Himeko, her Earthly counterpart and the user of the ribbon. Although they are doubles, the two are very different in personality, and Erika even admits that she needs Himeko to be her "copy" for the experiment. Despite the formal nature of their agreement, a bond of mutual care develops between them. Erika's deep concern for Himeko is demonstrated in a dire situation when Himeko is on the verge of death. When Erika's father, the King, offers to save Himeko at the cost of shortening Erika's own life, she does not hesitate, sacrificing her own long lifespan as a magical being for the sake of her friend. Erika is also rarely seen without her sentient broom, Chappy. Chappy is more outspoken and quick-tempered than the calm Erika, and she often scolds Himeko or reacts with frustration, providing a contrast to her mistress's polite patience. Erika also has a protector, Len, who reminds her of the rules forbidding her from interfering directly with Himeko after giving her the ribbon.

Throughout the year-long experiment, Erika undergoes her own subtle development. She begins as a princess focused on her examination, but her interactions with Himeko teach her valuable lessons. She grows to appreciate Himeko's energetic and playful spirit, which stands in contrast to her own more elegant and restrained upbringing. Her willingness to sacrifice her own life for Himeko marks a profound shift from a formal arrangement to a genuine friendship. Furthermore, the magic of the ribbon itself creates a physical link between them; when the ribbon is damaged, it can affect Erika, and in the Colorful remake of the story, Erika is able to transform into a small cat and take on a more active role on Earth.

Erika's most notable ability is her power as a magic inventor. She successfully created the transformation ribbon, a complex magical artifact, which she presents to Himeko for her exam. While the ribbon's power is used by Himeko, it originates from Erika's magical knowledge. As a resident of the Land of Magic, she is capable of flying on her broom, Chappy, and possesses other inherent magical traits, such as an extraordinarily long lifespan of a thousand or two thousand years. Her connection to her invention also seems to allow her a degree of awareness of its status, as she is able to send a magical message to Himeko after the ribbon is torn.
