TV-Series
Description
Minami's father, whose full name is Toshio Asakura, is a supporting character in the anime Touch. He is a widower who lost his wife when Minami was very young and never shows interest in remarrying, remaining faithful to her memory. He owns and runs a small coffee shop called the Minami Kaze, which means South Wind, located right next door to the Uesugi family home. Because his daughter often helps him at the café and took on much of the household work after her mother's death, the two share a close and practical daily life.
He is presented as a friendly, easygoing man who gets along very well with the Uesugi family. The adults of the two households regularly eat together and go on trips, treating one another almost as extended family. As a parent, he is supportive and trusting, giving Minami considerable freedom to follow her own interests, such as serving as manager of the high school baseball team and later competing in rhythmic gymnastics.
His main motivation concerning the story is his wish for Minami's future happiness. Along with the Uesugi parents, he believes that Kazuya Uesugi, the hard-working and accomplished twin brother, is the natural and ideal partner for her, and he hopes the pair will eventually marry. This expectation reflects the general belief among the neighbors that Kazuya and Minami are the perfect couple, even though Minami's own feelings are directed toward Tatsuya, the elder twin.
In the story, Toshio is a minor but steady presence rather than a driving force. His café functions as a recurring setting where characters gather, and his friendship with the Uesugi household keeps him connected to the main events. He is not involved in the sports competitions himself, and his role is mostly that of a caring father watching over the younger generation from the background.
Toshio shows little personal change over the course of the series. He remains a constant, supportive figure as the young characters deal with friendship, rivalry, loss, and their dreams for the future. His notable abilities are practical rather than remarkable: he is a capable café owner who manages his own establishment, and he succeeded in raising his daughter largely on his own after the death of his wife.
