Description
Kei Enomoto is a friend of Ayumi Arihara and a student in the same grade at their middle school. She is a popular girl who receives a great deal of attention from boys, a situation she largely finds to be a nuisance. Her appearance is part of the reason for this popularity, as she possesses a mature-looking face that can make her seem older than her years. Physically, she is depicted with blonde or yellow hair that falls to her chest, and her eyes are also yellow.
Kei has a pragmatic and somewhat shallow approach to romance. She is forthright about valuing a partner's looks and finances, believing these are major factors when considering a relationship. She also feels that receiving a confession of love is an annoying obligation if the feeling is not mutual. This perspective is complemented by a perfectionist streak, which influences her actions and can make her stubborn. Initially, her attitude can come across as cruel, arrogant, and overly critical toward boys who do not meet her standards.
A significant part of Kei's story revolves around her tumultuous relationship with a boy named Kusuda, whom she nicknames Kappa Face. Their interactions are defined by a classic love-hate dynamic, with Kei often expressing mostly hatred and insulting him. Despite her dismissive behavior towards him, Kusuda is consistently drawn to her and protective in his own way. Kei herself, however, is too immature to fully recognize her own feelings, leading to a fractious and dramatic relationship where they clash over many things. Her stubbornness often undermines any positive feelings she might develop for him.
In the story's events, Kei is forced to work with Kusuda on organizing a cheerleading performance for the school festival, an experience that tests their ability to cooperate. Through this shared task, she begins to see a more reliable side to him, building a sense of grudging respect and admiration. Later, her feelings become more complicated when another girl shows interest in Kusuda for a school play. This provokes a strong sense of jealousy in Kei, leading her to nearly ruin their relationship before saving the situation with an apology that she makes while looking deliberately cute.
Over time, Kei develops from a purely superficial and jaded girl into someone who shows moments of vulnerability and care, even if she struggles to express them directly. Her primary motivation shifts from maintaining a critical distance from unwanted male attention to navigating her own unexpected and confusing feelings for Kusuda. Her notable abilities include her mature appearance that attracts attention and a strong sense of perfectionism, which she applies to her duties and personal standards, making her a determined and hardworking individual when focused on a task.
