Description
Kan'u Unchō, whose private name is Aisha, is a central figure in the Koihime Musō anime. Known throughout the land as the Beautiful Black-haired Bandit Fighter, she is a warrior of great renown who wields the massive Green Dragon Crescent Blade in her quest to protect the innocent. Her entire motivation stems from a profound personal tragedy; when she was young, her family was brutally murdered by bandits, an event that forged her powerful sense of justice and her unwavering dedication to ensuring that no one else would suffer the same fate. This past also carries the memory of her older brother, who sacrificed himself to save her, an act of selflessness that deeply influences her own behavior as a protective sister figure to others.

In terms of personality, Kan'u is defined by her strong will, good heart, and an unshakable sense of honor. She is a fierce defender of the weak but can be quite stubborn, holding fast to her beliefs and often distrustful of those she considers enemies. Despite her serious and heroic demeanor, she has several notable vulnerabilities that become recurring sources of humor. She is famously self-conscious about her looks; though her reputation paints her as a stunning beauty, most people who meet her in person find her rather plain-looking, a fact she is sensitive about. She is also extremely embarrassed by mentions of her large breasts or her age, disliking being referred to in a way that makes her feel old. Adding to her list of quirks is a deep-seated, almost comical fear of ghosts.

Her role in the story is that of a heroic protagonist and moral compass. Early in the series, she encounters the orphaned girl Chōhi, and feeling a connection to the girl's loneliness, she swears a vow of sisterhood with her. This relationship is central to her character, as Kan'u becomes not just an older sister but a surrogate parent and mother figure to Chōhi, constantly looking after her and protecting her. This protective instinct expands in the second season when the gentle ruler Ryūbi joins their group. In a somewhat comical twist of fate, Chōhi, not wanting to share her position as the "little sister," declares that Ryuubi will be the older sister to both of them, much to Kan'u's initial confusion. Despite being the elder, Kan'u ultimately accepts this and comes to call Ryūbi aneue, or older sister, showing her deep respect and loyalty to the bond they share.

Kan'u's relationships with other characters highlight different facets of her personality. She finds herself the object of persistent, often inappropriate, affection from the cunning warlord Sōsō, who frequently makes advances and sexual propositions toward her, viewing her as a lust object. This puts Kan'u in uncomfortable situations, testing her resolve. Her development throughout the series is subtle but significant. While she begins as a lone warrior driven by revenge, she learns to rely on and fight alongside her newfound family. The intense loyalty she once had for her deceased brother is slowly transferred to her living sisters, Chōhi and Ryūbi. She evolves from a strict and somewhat emotionally guarded fighter into a more open and caring, if still often exasperated, team mom for her group of friends.

Regarding her abilities, Kan'u possesses no supernatural powers, but her martial prowess is virtually unmatched. Her primary skill is her mastery of the guan dao, the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, which she wields with devastating efficiency, easily cutting down large groups of bandits and even felling trees with a single swing. Her physical capabilities are far beyond those of an ordinary person, granting her tremendous strength, speed, and agility, allowing her to leap great distances and perform acrobatic feats in combat. Despite her combat brilliance, she has notable weaknesses. She is a terrible cook and often cuts herself when using a kitchen knife, a stark contrast to her skill on the battlefield. Furthermore, while she is an excellent and inspiring leader on the field, she struggles with creating strategies on her own and can become emotionally compromised or overestimate her abilities, making her vulnerable to simple tricks.
