TV-Series
Description
Irene Ellet is a determined and fearless news correspondent for the Gallian Broadcasting Station, known as GBS, who plays a dual role as both a character and the narrator of the story. Born in southern Gallia around 1910, she is approximately twenty-five to twenty-seven years old during the events of the Second Europan War. Her childhood was profoundly shaped by the chaos of the First Europan War, during which she lost her parents at an early age and was subsequently raised by her grandfather alongside her older brother. After the war, her grandfather passed away from illness, and her brother joined a humanitarian charity organization traveling across the continent. The letters between them eventually stopped, and Irene received only a simple notice stating he had died in a battle, with no further details offered. This heart-wrenching experience of not knowing what truly became of her brother became the driving force behind her decision to become a reporter, so that she might be the one to convey important information to people and prevent others from suffering the same pain of uncertainty.

Irene possesses an unyielding and bold personality, with a legendary willingness to do anything for a scoop. Her passion for journalism is so intense that she has been known to go to the frontlines of battle or even sneak into the royal palace of Randgriz to get a story. Her approach is direct and fearless; she does not make distinctions based on social standing or race, including the often-persecuted Darcsens, and she has the courage to broach any subject with anyone. This straightforward nature occasionally gets her into trouble, but it consistently allows her to get her story, establishing her as a force to be reckoned with. Beneath this tough exterior lies a more vulnerable side, as she has a hard time opening up to people and depending on others due to having lived most of her life alone, desperately hoping to find someone with whom she can share her innermost feelings.

Her primary motivation is to deliver the uncensored truth to the people waiting at home. In a time when most nations are implementing press restraints and the military under General Damon often claims credit for victories or leaves them unnoticed, Irene is committed to factual reporting without bias or prejudice. Upon hearing that the Empire had declared war on her homeland of Gallia, she returned home and focused her interviews on the Gallian war effort, volunteering as a war correspondent. Her role in the story begins when she attaches herself to Squad 7 of the Gallian Militia, seeing a rising star in its leader, Lieutenant Welkin Gunther. She covers many of the squad's heroic victories, and as the story progresses, she provides Welkin with reports for a fee, claiming to pay for everything out of her own pocket. Her commitment to the truth is tested when she and her sidekick, a bat named Hans, become the first to discover Princess Cordelia's secret heritage. Despite the colossal nature of the story, she decides to keep it a secret out of journalistic integrity and pride, respecting the princess's decision to keep the incident private.

Irene forges key working relationships with the members of Squad 7, particularly Welkin. While she finds him eccentric and not like other soldiers, she treats him with professional respect. A light rivalry sometimes exists between her and Alicia Melchiott, who tries to control Welkin's public image. Irene is also idolized by a later generation of reporters, such as Lotte Netzel, who describes her as the person she respects most in the world for maintaining the distribution of the truth despite government censorship efforts.

Throughout her time with Squad 7, Irene undergoes significant personal development. Getting to know the members of the squad and seeing the war through their eyes allows her to gradually let go of the anger and heartache over her brother's mysterious disappearance. She learns to report the news professionally and objectively, transforming her initial need for vengeance into a purer passion for the truth. By the end of the war, she gets the idea to record all of the squad's information in a handbook. It is ultimately revealed that she is engaged and soon to be married, taking the surname Koller. As Irene Koller, she publishes the book On the Gallian Front, which serves as the written account detailing the exploits of Squad 7. This development confirms her role as the unseen narrator whose words frame the entire story, showing her evolution from a passionate war correspondent to a celebrated historical author.

In terms of notable abilities, Irene is a highly skilled and accurate journalist with excellent situational awareness. She is capable of accurately reporting events without bias, and her courage allows her to conduct interviews in the most dangerous of places. Her most significant ability is the power of her pen and voice; by publishing the truth of Squad 7's exploits through outlets like her own newspaper, The Writing on the Wall, and the radio, she influences public perception and fights the spread of misinformation, ensuring that no one has to endure the same painful ignorance she did regarding her brother's fate.
