Description
Oichi is the younger sister of Oda Nobunaga and the wife of Azai Nagamasa, a position that places her at the center of one of the series' most tragic storylines. Because of her bloodline, she is sometimes called the Demon Queen, a title that weighs heavily on her. Her marriage to Nagamasa was originally arranged by Nobunaga as a political strategy, with Oichi sent to spy on her new husband. However, she genuinely fell in love with Nagamasa, and this deep affection placed her in an agonizing conflict between loyalty to her brother and devotion to her husband.

In personality, Oichi is melancholic, withdrawn, and deeply insecure. She is gentle and soft-spoken, with a fragile emotional state that makes her seem both physically and psychologically delicate. She habitually blames herself for events beyond her control and carries constant guilt, often expressing the belief that misfortune is her fault. This self-recrimination is tied to her awareness of the dark power she shares with her brother, which she views as a curse. Her gloomy demeanor is reflected in her appearance, as she dresses in dark clothing with pink and black tones and carries an air of sadness wherever she goes.

Her motivations revolve around love, loyalty, and a desperate desire to escape the shadow of her brother. She wants to be at peace with Nagamasa, but she cannot fully sever her connection to Nobunaga, and this inner division defines much of her suffering. In later parts of the story, after the fall of the Oda forces, Oichi is depicted as the nominal leader of the remnants of the Oda clan. In reality, her retainers use her as a figurehead, and she becomes even easier to manipulate, having grown more passive and broken by her experiences.

Her key relationships are central to her tragedy. With Nobunaga, she shares a bond of fear, loyalty, and shared blood that she can never escape. With Nagamasa, she experiences genuine love, which makes her position as a spy all the more painful. She also regards Maria, her sister-in-law, with jealousy at first, seeing her as a rival for Nagamasa's affection, though the two eventually grow closer when Maria turns her attention toward Oichi.

Oichi's development traces a downward path from a sorrowful but loving wife to a hollow figure consumed by grief and manipulated by others. Her sadness deepens as she loses those she cares for, and her fragile personality becomes even more vulnerable over time.

In combat, Oichi is a skilled and unsettling fighter. She wields a twin-headed naginata, two bladed weapons connected by a cord that she can separate and use with chainlike flexibility. She also commands supernatural dark powers, manifesting shadowy hands and darkness that can strike enemies, drain life force, and even send foes to a realm resembling hell. These abilities are linked to the demonic nature she inherits from Nobunaga, and there are implications that the dark power itself may influence or control her. Her fighting style blends graceful skill with an eerie, deadly aura, matching the tragedy and darkness that define her character.
