Description
Winnie Emex, known as Winnie the Witch, is a centuries-old witch running a tavern in the western forest near the Rimdarl Kingdom. She appears as a young woman with medium-length green hair, purple eyes, and glasses, typically dressed in traditional witch attire.

Born into the prestigious Emex family, she witnessed the destruction of her village by humans. This tragedy led her to be taken in and trained by Sakuya Bittrent, the era's strongest witch, who taught her extensive magical arts alongside unconventional life advice.

She later formed a romantic relationship with Hawthorn Grattor's grandfather, becoming Hawthorn's grandmother and involved in his childhood upbringing. After years of wandering, she established her tavern at his grandfather's encouragement, settling there permanently.

Her personality blends transactional pragmatism with hidden warmth. She assists others but imposes strict conditions, demanding one million coins for magic lessons or cleaning labor for lodging. Playful tendencies emerge as she surprises allies like Sally and taunts adversaries like the oni Todoroki. Despite a seemingly aloof demeanor, she shows concern for those close to her, rescuing Hawthorn from Todoroki and gifting him the sword Air. She also maintains a centuries-long acquaintance with Frau, gifting her a custom-made mallet.

Winnie possesses extensive magical abilities honed over centuries, including teleportation magic used to evacuate survivors before Rimdarl's destruction, crystal ball scrying, fire magic for intimidation, and barrier removal like dismantling the tree oni's seal. She can block potent magical attacks bare-handed, such as Todoroki's lightning blast. Additional capabilities encompass weapon crafting, energy sensing (detecting ogre blasts and Sally's latent power), and intuitive insight into others' identities and natures.

Her tavern serves as a pivotal hub where she offers guidance and aid while concealing deeper investments. She discreetly supports the younger generation, like modifying Hawthorn's headgear. Her backstory reveals she was the sole predictor of a future where even one human could survive, and she killed Carbost's mother, a key instigator in the celestial-demon war.

Her history involves profound loss and resilience, channeled into protective actions. Her relationships balance emotional distance with genuine care, particularly toward descendants and long-term associates. Her actions consistently influence broader events while maintaining an enigmatic presence.
